E-Mail response with Prev. Ans. Repeated and Pers. Info.

It seems like more people are using email response, many from their phones.  On many of these responses there is a messages at the bottom with  their name, e-mail, phone number, and address.  There is also a repeat of the previous response.  This puts user at risk of spam, makes a mess of the forum, and adds extra work for moderators to clean up.

Is there a way for the highly trained and inovative Jive programers to prevent this last bit of info from being added?

There is a line that separtates the response from the personal info and question repeat, so seems like an excellent place to put in a limiter.  If the Jive engineers are not capable of fixing the problem perhaps one of the users can write down a few lines of code to make it happen.

Disclaimer:  I hate e-mail responses as they do not get corrections, do not see the flow of responses,  and rarely give you credit for solving problem.  Also, not a programer.

I am using Email response because I don't have a choice. I can't login at all on my Windows 8.1 using any of the browsers available at my disposal namely IE11 and FF.

In January 2014, Microsoft will release Windows 8.2 and perhaps it might solve most of the problems but I guess the problem is Jive and NOT Microsoft.

Don't have a smartphone, or a tablet, but am assuming there is a setting to automatically respond to an email to include the previous post along with your phone number, email, and other info you want to add.  This last part is what needs to be deleted automatically when user sends it.

I have no experience at all in the subject, but I would guess that including or excluding such information is a choice of the user. If I am right, this would show that not every user is aware of this.

I would guess that including or excluding such information is a choice of the user.

In many cases, the posters are unaware that a signature, with personal info, has even been added to their Replies - when posting via some e-mail clients, they only see the text that they type (and often, that text is not even displayed in the forum). Then, when someone points out that info, via a Reply to the post, where it appears, the OP cannot Edit that out, so a MOD has to do so.

As Curt points out, we are seeing more and more posts, with full quotation of previous Replies, and then sigs. with about every bit of info, that one is likely to have on their device, or in their e-mail client.

Going back some years, it was common to see little advertisements added, with no control by the OP, for their ISP, or their mobile phone service provider - the OP's never saw those, until the came back to the forums, and were surprised to see, say an ad for Verizon, or other carrier, which had been added.

I think that we will see more of this (or similar), as forum subscribers migrate to more mobile devices, and access the forums less often via a Web browser and a "real" computer.

Jive doesn't have anything to do with signing in. When you click Sign In on a forum page it takes you to adobe.com to sign in. If you cannot sign in the issue is with your Adobe ID account at Adobe. Is your Adobe ID a nickname or an email address? Can I have someone who works on membership contact you directly?

If that is the case then everyone's ID is screwed up because ever day everyone has to sign in. And everytime the quit their web browser and re open. Or there are day s when they can't sign in to the forums. Last week there was two days (not together) in which I couldn't sign-in if I was to make the trip to California, washington state or oregon (where ever adobe headquarters are and personally sign in to a sign-in-book. To say its allthe USerdID is just a Cope out. Whomever is handling the Sign in server Don't know what the heck (I would say something stong but do not wish to get Banned) they are doing. I've done everything but got up and danced an Iris Jig (which someone would have to teach me)

The issue is not with my Account(s) Its squarely the responsibily of Adobe, lies squarely on their shoulders. I am tired of this Blame being put on the Users. We are trying to do adobe a Favor since they want to cheap out on Support.  And if we either can't sign our being huranged by the sign in server everytime we turn around.

Adobe don't realize it but their reputation now is lower than Intuit's. Quit putting the blame on users a nd fix the problems.

Just had to sign in a again.

Yes when I am not able to sign in to Forums and I can either sign or I am already signed in to Adobe.com Thatt's one of the things I check when Ican't get in to see if the entire Adobe system is down.

The usual symptom Is you click sign it go to sign in Page but then it just stops. There is waiting indicator. When this happens, I usually dump Cookies, quit Browser, restart Browser. Or clear Cache files then attempt to sign in. Still goes to sign in page then nothing. No waiting indicator. In some cases I do both.

I use Comcast and typical speed is 20-35 mbs. On occasion my connection is down but then I can get nowhere.  If 12 different browsers result in the same problem.

I guess I will have to make a Movie using Camtasia2 to prove.

I'll make two one with Typical sign in we go through now.  And then wait for the login server to crash and make one them.

Pity that this thread has been fully taken over by posters discussing a completely different problem. Curt's appeal in his opening message is perfectly legitimate and I second it wholeheartedly. I see no reason for ignoring it by hiding it behind a long discussion on another problem, which I find unfair and not very polite.

Frankly, I don't know why you guys are bothered about it. As long as it

is not a spam link or a porn site or a pirate site, why waste time

deleting or editing the post at all when there are bigger problems to

deal with here on these forums. For example, sort out the login

problems so that Phil Jones and I can login using FF or IE.

People need to be left alone so that they can learn from their own

mistakes. All they need is to get 1000s of spam messages and then they

will realise they made a big mistake posting their personal info on a

public forum.

Perhaps a private message to them (e;g to Heath Nicholas) by Adobe Admin

might do the trick.

Why? Because, in my experience, many of the newcomers posting through email don't even realize that they are posting in a public forum. Some even think they are participating in a chat service. And of those who are told they are in a public forum, many have no idea about how to prevent posting their personal information. The person in the link I gave is a good example of the last.

Not to mention those who spam the forums by repeating all the previous messages...

I completely agree with you here.

Many new users think that they are actually in an e-mail conversation, because that is how they see it. They believe that their info is secure, and only being seen by a single individual - not the whole world.

As for protecting a poster's personal info, I disagree with mytaxsite, and feel that a good MOD *should* assist a poster, and especially a new one, protect themselves. Yes, that does mean a bit more "housekeeping," but as few have any direct input into the Sign-In issues, they should a moment to help out.

Just my limited opinion.

Bill, of course the mods can be helpful and remove that information and even send PMs explaining the situation and how to avoid the problem, but I think it is terribly unfair to ask all the mods do this all the time.

That's why I strongly second Curt's plea to look for a way of automatically removing signatures from all messages coming from devices that add them automatically. In the opinion of this complete ignorant in these matters, I would think that this cannot be all that difficult to implement. In which I may of course be completely wrong, but I have yet to see an official statement on the issue.

Unfortunately, I share mytaxsite's disbelief in Adobe's/Jive's willingness or aptitude to take action on this, as shown by the extremely long time that the login problem is taking to be solved.

I think we all share the acceptance that Jive will be reluctant to fix the problem, and Adobe will say it would cost us money to ask for a new feature.  But at least we can bring up the issue and hope for some help from Adobe, as the responders give thousands of hours of time to solve problems.  How much does that same save Adobe?  $10,000 a day??

But don't think it would be that hard.  As stated in OP there is a line that seperate the response from the personal info and the repeated question.  That should serve as a marker to delete anything below the line.

And yes, new users with e-mail seem to think they are doing a 1 to 1 chat with us, they are shocked to find out what they say is printed for everyone to see on the forum.  Education is not an option as they barely know how to use their devices as evidenced by the large number of blank responses.
