Whenever I use the quote functionality in these forums the actual quotes are preceded by code. I don't see this happening to most others. What am I doing wrong?

You are doing nothing wrong. What you are doing different is that you
are using IE8 without compatibility mode.

This is all I see when I click on the quote icon in reply.
Browser may make a difference, as I sometimes see this with other posts. I use Firefox browser.

I suspected that at least some other people were not doing anything special and the quote icon just worked for them, but thanks for confirming. I use Internet Explorer - I wonder if there is some setting I could change in the tools menu that would fix the problem...
Oh well, it is an annoyance, that's all, and I can live with it!

On my old IE7 and now on Chrome, I have not had the code, though there is at least one other thread on similar. I seldom quote an entire post, and usually only a line, or two, so I am doing a Ctrl+C/Ctrl+V, then while highlighted, use the Block Quote icon.

I don't seem to have a Quote Block icon, only a Quote Previous Message one:

I use that icon, in the upper-right, and apply that to the highlighted text.

Claudio,
Interesting. It has worked that way in both IE7 and in Chrome.
Now, if I have nothing in my reply, and hit that Quotation icon, I get the entire post, to which I am replying.

Bill, it seems that I had missed the copy and paste part. Now it works ... sort of. I had to click several times on the Quote icon for it to work, but it finally did. Thanks for the tip.

Claudio,
Glad that you got it working. Sorry that I was not better at articulating the steps the first time around.
Good luck,

Now I will (continue to) do the same. Thank you from me, too.

You are most welcome and glad that it's working.
I learned something too - compatibility mode.

Ok, now trying with compatibility mode! Let's see if it works!

Thanks so much, it was switching to compatibility mode that solved the problem!
