Moderation and Thread Moving

I expressed a concern about moving thread from the Forum Comments (this thread:  http://forums.adobe.com/message/2223352#2223352 ) to another area of the forums.  The link still resides in the Forum Comments list.  I suggested that IF such a move were going to be made, folks should be aware that they are being taken AWAY from the Forum Comments area.  I don't feel this is an unreasonable consideration.  Yet, my entire post was summarily deleted without any mention that I had even existed.

Will someone please tell me why alerting the viewer that they are going to another area of the forum is such a heinous crime as to be fully deleted without comment?

Claudio,

you are not being obtuse!

Jochem,

bottom line is the following:  you are moderating through automated process and rules that others are NOT using.  There is no concensus, visible to the users, as to whether or not threads will be locked or moved and why.  Nor is there a concensus on how to move the threads if they are going to be moved.

And I do think Claudio deserves a proper answer (and I might add, an apology should be in order as well) as to why he was accused of highjacking the thread, preventing the OP from continuing to receive the help that  the gurus were providing, and of saying falsely that the thread had been moved - all of which were false.  If one were to read the thread in question, even the OP stated they didn't understand why they ended up where they were, but they persevered.

I have explained before that I am not moderating through automated process.

There is no concensus, visible to the users, as to whether or not threads will be locked or moved and why.

That isn't visible to moderators either. We can't predict in which

direction people will take threads in the future, so we don't know which

future action will be necessary. Sometimes they turn out fine if we just

leave them alone (http://forums.adobe.com/thread/488590), sometimes they

don't (http://forums.adobe.com/thread/490158). I wish I had a way to

predict that X days in the future somebody would start about moderation

in a particular users thread so I could lock it beforehand.

Nor is there a concensus on how to move the threads if they are going to be moved.

We are discussing that. You may have noticed a lack of moved threads

over the past week.

I was wondering why in the last week when clicking a link in an email notification  I had not been dumped into other forums I were uninterested in subscribing to then having to unsubscribe from the thread and the forum.

THanks for that. Provide a link with a note to the OP to click here to go to proper forum and then lock. That way people don't get bounced in to forums they are uninterested.

See guys: They are listening!

Now, can we stop the moderator bashing? Please?

If this place ceased to be a kindergarten, the moderators would not have to treat it as such...

As it was me who refloated this thread, all I can say is that I think that a polite question about my lack of understanding of the way the moving of threads is handled can hardly be taken as moderator bashing. The question has also been politely answered by Jochem and, although I may not be completely satisfied with his answer, it's a clear and honest explanation of the present state of the situation. I don't think I have given him any reason to feel hunted, and he hasn't given me any reason to pursue the matter any further. If you choose to look at this interchange as a kindergarten fight, it's your privilege. However, I fail to notice any bashing in the messages after Jochem's answer either.

Hi Claudio,

I was not referring to you, nor any person, or post in particular, and

not even necessarily to this thread (which has been for the most part

a rather reasoned discussion).

I was referring to the tone on the whole Forum Comments forum in

general. There's a general air that moderators don't need to be dealt

with the same decency that the rest of us deserve. They are held

under a microscope that quite frankly I would not want to be subjected

to. The entire tone of the Forum Comments is decidedly negative, and

it's the users -- not the moderators setting that tone.

Yes, there are issues with this forum, and there are plenty of genuine

complaints, but the more we can keep ourselves civilized and composed

without making sweeping statements and downright ridiculous

accusations, the better our chances of getting improvements made.

Quite frankly, I believe Jochem has done more for improving the

functionality of this forum than anyone else, and I've barely heard a

single thanks from anyone.

I generally keep my head low around here, and I'm going back into my

hole now...

So people are in Kindergarten because they speak up? Just looking at the sentence structure of some the posts will tell you that the posters are highly educated.

No. Not at all. I believe the purpose of this forum is so we can speak up.

It's more a question of how we speak up.

I believe my response to Claudio explains a little better what I'm trying to say.

Don't get me wrong, I have plenty of issues myself with the new forums...

I'm sorry, but that wasn't clear to me when you said:

// Acting on messages is done i a very specific order

//

// 1. move the thread

//

// 2. add the reply after moving so all watches in the new location get trigerred

// and not the watches in the old location

//

// 3. lock after the reply so we can post an explanation of why we lock the thread

And that discussion ended with:

"But (so far) every moderation action outside my own forum happened because I clicked a button after reading the message posted."

Yes, I read that carefully when it was posted. Seems all right but here it doesn't seem to be working as described. I fail to see the difference between the thread that was moved and caused the charging of two moderators against me

Presuming you mean http://forums.adobe.com/thread/487684 that was moved

immediately after posting by a moderator.

and the one that wasn't moved but locked.

I presume you mean http://forums.adobe.com/thread/490158

I have been a bit busy lately and when I got to that thread the OP had

been redirected more then 2 hours before, so I ignored it. Later

somebody picked it up again and even later somebody started about

moderation in that thread. His message has since been removed and the

thread was closed because people were posting off-topic.

So the difference is time. A moderator got to the first thread

immediately and for the second thread it took a while.
