Hi, and a question about LUTs Is it possible to create folders for different LUTs, such as food, landscape, portraits, etc.? I don't mean go into the 3D LUTs folder and delete and replace with another set. I mean open color lookup and see folders—or something similar. Having hundreds of unrelated LUTs all mixed up is not a great way to go.

Watched this video earlier and it solved most of my problems. Use clipping masks to duplicate bg layers. Adding a layer mask on the Nik filter enabled me to change layers below it. Comments on the video? Thanks for the comment about the 'correct answer' - it's possible that I saw 'correct answer' and intended to turn it off but instead, turned it on. Seems likely that my work flow is the problem. The image was just something I did very quickly and is just an example. Anyway instead of coming back to you several times and driving you nuts, instead of just asking you how to do one thing, I will ask you how to do three. Let's make a change using the patch tool. Normally I would do this on the layer marked 'healing brush' but I can't do that of course. Now let's make a sharpening adjustment using the 'high pass filter'. And finally let's use the imagenomic professional noiseware tool. Or something similar. Thank you, Michael

thanks. I often use cntrl-alt-shft-E to do something similar but I'm then creating an additional layer rather than being able to change the existing one. My work flow seems to be my problem. Michael

Well changing the layer order is problematical because it can easily negate changes previously made above it. Will think about a layer mask and also ask for help with work flow. Thank you.

Sadly you are still misunderstanding my question and I don't know how to explain it any better. How do I change the lower layers? Turning off other layers and then making changes is surely just spinning wheels if they are lost after I turn the other layers. Michael

Thanks. So we are now hopefully moving in the direction that I'm trying to understand. So how do I make, if possible, updates to the healing brush layer? There are thousands of online tutorials about layers and never found one that even touches on my question. They all say something similar to .. "A layer is simply one image stacked on top of another. Imagine I have a piece of paper and I paint it red. Then I take a piece of clear cellophane and paint a yellow circle, and lay it over the paper. Now I take another peice of cellophane and paint some blue type and lay that on top of the yellow circle. I now have a background (red) and 2 layers (yellow and blue.)". I can of course do Ctrl-Alt-Shift-E and make changes .. Michael

Hi, have been using PS for quite a while and have learned to do many things but still seem to be missing a basic understanding of layers. If I create a new layer and clean up a photo with spot healing brush tool or whatever, then add a hue and saturation layer and then filters or whatever. Then I want to do a little more clean up on my first clean up layer - then how do I do it? Moving the layer to the top allows me to do it but it disables all the lower layers and if I make the clean up changes and then put it back to its original position then the new changes don't show. Maybe I l learned many more advanced things and simply don't know how to do one is hopefully one of the simplest. Any help would be much appreciated ... Michael PS CC

That's quick and easy thanks. I probably spend an hour a day on photoshop either working on an image or checking tutorials and have done so for a long time. But really knowing it is like a bottomless pit; how deep is the rabbit hole? I still sometimes have a problem with layers and haven't yet found a really in depth tutorial. Yesterday I used drop shadow (and a copy of the drop shadow on another layer) and vanishing point; and ran into all kinds of problems. This is everywhere, including official Adobe. Expand or contract a selection by a specific number of pixels - Use a selection tool to make a selection. - Choose Select > Modify > Expand or Contract. - For Expand By or Contract By, enter a pixel value between 1 and 100, and click OK. The border is increased or decreased by the specified number of pixels. Why the need to now enter select and mask? I'm glad you told me about it but it apparently used to be much simpler.
