No changes to the file, Myra. Regardless, whether the file is manipulated in any capacity, it attempts to save directly to PSD (even when simply opened and attempting to "save" or "save as". JPEG is absolutely an option, but not the first. I must manually select jpeg from the dropdown.

Regardless of whether or not I've made adjustments to the file, it automatically defaults to save as PSD. With no adjustments (simply opening the file and attempting to "save", or "save as", it attempts to save to PSD. I'm not working in or manipulating layers. As I've mentioned, the problem is not that I cannot save to jpeg -- I absolutely can -- but that it defaults to saving as a PSD. I can absolutely manually use the dropdown menu to click "jpeg" every time, but this is very prohibitive to workflow.

@D Fosse No. This is the default workspace when the image is opened. Nothing has been renamed or manipulated (including layers).

Hi D Fosse, Jpeg is not off limits. The problem is that it defaults to being saved as PSD, not jpeg -- meaning that every time I go to save a file, I have to manually select "jpeg". I am working with many files every day, and it is quite cumbersome to manually select "jpeg" from a drop-down menu for every file, every time.

Thanks for the option, but I don't want to export, as that will make a copy. I don't need a copy. I want to very quickly save the file after I have worked on it, using the original format (jpeg). How can that be accomplished?

Hello, Every time I open a jpeg file and attempt to save, it defaults the file to PDF. This just started a few weeks ago. I need it to default to jpeg, as I am handing large amount of image files everyday and it is quite tedious to manually select "jpeg" from the dropdown menu every single time. I have seen similar posts related to this, but the answers provided in those do not resolve this issue. I'm using Photoshop CC on a Mac running High Sierra. Thanks in advance.
