I'll explain what I did, but I also want to mention that Adobe pushed out an update to 11.8.1 that fixed the problem on my Mac. If you are running the latest Mac version, you should be ok. However, if you still need to do it post publishing, here's what I did: Open the published file directory (non-zip) Open the CPM.js file (located inside assets/js) Use a text editor to search for "cp-actualText" to find all the captions in the code. You should see the color of the text after the line-height attribute. For example: <span class="cp-actualText" style="line-height:120%;color:#000000;font-size:18px;... (this indicates the text is black) Do a search/replace in the file to change the hex color from black to white, so change to "color:#ffffff" I caution you to not just search/replace the "color:#000000" part because there could be other areas that have that setting and you only want to change the caption color, so I usually copy more of the line of code that include something custom to the captions like the font size or include the beginning of the line up to that point.

When will Captivate be compatible with Mac OS 15 (Sequoia)? We haven't fully migrated yet from classic to v.12 (mostly because of all the customization we use) and have projects going in both versions. Our IT group is pushing for us to upgrade and we need some information to back up our request to NOT upgrade yet.

I guess no one has any ideas, but I'll continue to post updates. I found a way to fix the problem post publishing in the CPM.js, but that's another short term solution. This affects half my development team and will cause major delays in our schedule so if anyone anywhere has any ideas, I'm game!

Update to my original post. It looks like only existing captions are affected. We changed our template dimentions and a few other items so we had to bring over existing slide content and update the theme. In order to save production time we preserved the existing audio and captions. A few slides did have to be created from scratch and then manually captioned. Those captions pick up the project caption settings and work just fine. Again, this happens only on the Mac side with the latest update. For now we'll have the Windows users on the team do our publishing, but that's not a viable long-term solution, so hopefully this will be fixed.

We recently updated to Captivate 11.8.1 because our Mac users will be going to Ventura. We are now having problems with our closed captioning. The text is black no matter what color you set it in the settings. This does NOT happen on the 11.8.1 version for Windows, so it's obviously Mac related. We are stuck with this version and we caption all our training which will be going live in a month. Anyone have a fix or a workaround?

Yes, I agree Rod. They finally (sort of) admitted the issue is on their end and their engineers are looking into it. I was just hoping to find a workaround in the meantime, because our training goes live in a month. I'll close this out.

I tried your suggestion on two courses. One completed automatically and one didn't. The only difference was the number of slides; one has 15, the other 33. The longer one did not complete. Back to the drawing board.

Question: if I change it back to "optional" doesn't that allow a user to skip the slide if the TOC is turned on? I have it set to only allow people to go to visited slides, but if they fail the quiz the first or 2nd time then they would be able to skip past the questions if they want. We have a custom retake that puts the user back at the beginning of the module, not at the quiz questions (client requirement), so they could skip to anywhere if they wanted evven though they would fail the quiz. I could probably add some programming to check, but I'm trying not to add more than I have if I can avoid it.

I did read your comment and never said I wouldn't try it, so please don't assume I am ignoring anything you suggested. Yes, we are running 11.8.1. We test in the SCORM cloud and get completions, the LMS people also tested in the SCORM cloud. We have tried all sorts of combinations with visiting slides, as the client requires the users to see every slide but only see the final slide if they have passed the quiz. We had been using 100% with absolutely no problems until we started using this new LMS.

We have recently started using a new LMS called Absorb, and are experiencing intermittent issues with completions. What I mean by intermittent, is sometimes a course will automatically show the completion and sometimes the user either has to refresh their browser or select a "next" button inside the LMS to move to the next course. We have been doing extensive troubleshooting with the LMS engineers ass well as trying different options in Captivate, but the only "consistency" is that longer courses that have a lot of audio seem to be the ones that don't complete more regularly (but again, this only happens with some users). Also affecting the completions are pauses if the user walks away or does something else in the middle of the course. If they actually exit the course and come back the bookmarking works just fine. However, if there's any lag then the course will not show a completion automatically. I think there's some kind of time out that then "breaks" the commit to the LMS but can't figure out how to force it. We are using the built-in "Exit" on a button when they successfully complete a course. Some of them do have quiz questions and they must pass the quiz to complete, but others do not. We are using SCORM 2004 3rd edition and the users have three chances to pass the quiz (there are either 5 questions or a multiple of 5 and they can only miss 1 out of 5 (or 2 out of 10) to pass. We have tested the same courses on our old LMS which is still being used by our corporate area and the courses complete with no problem. When we pointed that out to the Absorb LMS people we were told that Absorb doesn't use commits the same way as others but were not given any guidance on how we might force the commit or completion programmatically. Has anyone else experienced this issue with an LMS recently and if so, how did you resolve it? If it helps, we seem to have the most completion problems with Windows 10 tablets and Edge (which of course is what our field management staff have to use). Desktop users have fewer problems, Chrome works slightly better, and Mac users don't seem to have any issues with completions. The following screen shots are the current settings. This particular module has 34 screens and per Absorb's suggestion we changed the slide view to be the "Results" screen instead of 100% of the slides. We tried everything from 1-2 slides to every number in between with no success. We originally had the "Success Criteria" as 100% slide view and quiz is passed, but made it the bare minimum. The user cannot skip any questions and must answer them all to continue.

I just answered my own question...duh. It seems that the smart quote replacement was the culprit in the source file. Once I turned off the smart quote substitutions and then re-typed the word in Word and copied into Captivate, all is well. 🙂

I've been a Captivate user for years (since v4) and created fairly complex training but have primarily used professional talent for our audio (recorded in a studio and importing the audio files). I just recently started using the Text to Speech function in Captivate (v2019 11.5.4.613) and every once in a while, the software will read an apostrophe as "registered trademark" rather than ignoring it. Sometimes I can just re-type the character and everything is fine, but no always. Has anyone else experienced this and how do you fix it?

You are so right. When I actually find the answer I want (or at least something that looks like the answer) it brings me back to the main community page. So not helpful. I will likely stop using the forums now. It wastes so much time trying to find anything close and then it ends up being for another application instead of the one I had filtered. Big thumbs down Adobe.

Not only that but now when I do a Google search and come up with the topic I want, the link takes me to the main forum/community page instead of the actual topic in the forum. I've wasted so much time today just trying to get to the page with the question I'm ready to just chuck the entire forum thing (and I lived on the Captivate and Acrobat forums...) So sad.

You can add the code to the default index.html file in your applications folder and then it will be done automatically every time you publish. That's what I've done with several fixes and it saves a lot of time and effort.

I found a fix that worked for me in Chrome and IE but not Safari (at least not so far). You have to modify the "index_scorm.html" file after publishing. Open the published "index_scorm.html" file. Before the end style tag (</style>) add this text: #playbar, #ccText {-webkit-backface-visibility: hidden;} (I've added that code to my default index_scorm.html file in my applications so it does it automatically when publishing now)

After reading your reply, I see I wasn't completely clear about the problem. I am only using one audio file per slide, but have several cue points per audio file. If there are too many words for a cue point (we only use a single line and try to keep it short), then I have to move some words to the next cue point. When I do that, the words tend to stay in the original cue point even after I've moved them and saved. When that happens, it takes several tries to delete the unneeded text and I am unable to save because the Save button isn't active for some reason. By the way, this has happened when I type the text directly in Captivate caption cue point, so I believe it may be a bug. I will log it today.

Thanks for this suggestion. I tried it both ways; plain text and changing the font to Arial (it was Calibri). Both ways were better than using the Calibri, but again they both had problems when I tried to move text from one cue point to another. It took multiple tries to have the change stick, and I had to close out of the captions window and go back in order to get the Save button active. I think the problem I'm having it a Captivate issue, not a font or style problem. As I said in one of my replies, it doesn't matter how much or little text I'm copying from one cue point to the other. What happens is the original cue point won't seem to let go of the extra text without several saves or tries. After trying this several times on several screens, I'm going to go with the Arial text for now. It seems to have fewer problems than even the plain text. In addition, changing the font in my storyboard allows us to continue our workflow and will cause fewer problems. The plain text option won't work for us because it's crucial for us to see the breaks so we can time our animations.

There’s really no need to be snide. Not everyone lives on the forums, and I only visit when I have a problem I can’t resolve, which is rarely. In fact, most of my problems turn out to be bugs or I’m attempting to do something that cannot be done in the software. We don’t require any formatting in our CC, so so we’ll likely go to html if we decide to change. Have a nice day!

It may be well known to you, but not necessarily everyone There’s not much formatting in the text, other than bold or italic sometimes. However, I’ll try s Rod’s suggestion of converting to plain text for a few screens. This will be a huge time suck if that turns out to be the problem. We use scripts with 4 columns (screen no., screen text, audio, media) to build our training and we can’t wait until the end to add captions. There will audio edits and some screens need full RE-records so the scriots have to stay as is. If we have to extract plain text each and every time we have to edit the captions it will add days to our production, so I’m in for even more nights and weekends than already planned. This is a huge disappointment. We may have to look into other software options.

This is the first I've ever heard about not copying text directly from Word. I've been doing it this way for several years, and since Captivate v7 with no problems. I rarely copy more than two or 3 sentences at a time, and then move the text as I add cue points. However, with Captivate 2017 now there's an issue. It doesn't even matter if I copy a couple of words and then try to move one to a new cue point, that's when I can either no longer save (button is grayed out) or, if I can save it doesn't stick. I certainly hope there's a different solution here, because this version is the most buggy I've ever seen and I've been using it since v4.

We are experiencing a major problem working with closed captions in Captivate 2017 (10.0.1.285). When I copy chunks of text into cue points, and try to edit the amount of text in each, it won't stay after saving. In some cases, when I try to edit text or delete it, the "Save" button is not active. I have about 150-200 slides across 50 projects that have quite a bit of audio and it's slowing the process down to a crawl. There's no rhyme or reason for this issue and it happens no matter how many cue points I have. Sometimes everything works fine for a few screens and then it doesn't. Yesterday I didn't have the problem until I started captioning my third project. Does anyone have any solutions for this? This is happening on both Mac and Windows versions.

II tried changing the button label text in several different places in the CPM.js file, but nothing seemed to work until I saw that a lot of the dialog box button text was there...except for the OK button; it was blank. I added that text and when I uploaded the file to the SCORM cloud it showed up! Here's how I did it: search for "rtokb:" (stands for run time ok button) you will see empty single quotes. This is right before the run time cancel button [rtcb:'CANCEL'] Just add OK (or whatever you want) between them. Example: rtokb:'OK' There may be a more elegant way of doing it, but it worked for me. Please note that you will have to make the change in the published file assets/js/CPM.js file and then save it. You will have to do this each time you publish the file. I have not yet figured out how to do it automatically.
