Thank you Bevi, I will definitely do this moving forward. The PDF came from an outside source and passed through a series of forwarded emails until it got to my inbox. Ideally I would have loved to have gotten my hands on the original Word file from the start and converted myself. Lesson learned. Kind regards, Eddie

"I’m guessing the font is either not embeddable or Word had already silently substituted it." I guess that could also explain why I was only able to convert to PDF/X-4 from my PC. Only then will the file display properly placed in the InDesign file opened on my Mac.

Thank you for taking a look at the files. I'm just confused as to why it worked before the update to CC 2019. The only variable that has changed was updating the version of InDesign. It may not have been an issue that started in InDesign but at one point it was still able to handle it and now it can't. Ultimately I feel like it is one of those Mac-to-PC issues that began in MS Word when the file was created, as none of the errors show up in the PDF when viewing the properties on my PC. If fonts are missing in the PDF (and not present on my Mac) I would have thought that I would have gotten the error in InDesign the very first time I placed it months ago instead of just recently. I'm okay with the solution moving forward and am thankful to learn a safer way to place PDFs by converting to PDF/X-4 first. I truly appreciate all of the feedback, Eddie

I have updated to the most recent version of Indesign (as of 11/21/2018). Without saving as PDF/X-4, the problem still persists. That was the only solution for me on the Mac. Eddie

Hello Laubender, The fonts giving me issues actually appear to be Type 1 fonts.

Hi Willi, This worked great and solved my problem! However I had to convert to PDF X-4 from my PC. It would not work from Acrobat Pro DC on my Mac. When I checked the preflight menu in Acrobat it told me the file was not PDF X-4 compliant. I had no issue at all converting on Acrobat X Pro on my PC. Not sure why as the file worked as is on the Mac in InDesign before updating to CC 2019. Many thanks! Eddie

Hello, We are running Suitcase Fusion to manage fonts. The fonts appear to be active but just aren’t being picked up in the document. I have tried deactivating and reactivating and it doesn’t make any difference.

When I run the script in InDesign to place a multipage pdf file onto multiple pages in a document, InDesign substitutes the fonts and throws errors on the preflight panel stating that the fonts (that are in the PDF file itself) are missing. I did not have this issue before updating to 2019. (This is on a Mac Computer) It is in a file I have been working on since April 2018. I also have a PC running indesign CS6 and I exported the file on the mac as an .idml file. I was able to open the .idml with CS6 on my PC with no issues. The placed PDF pages in the indesign document are present and display correctly. I have only come across a similar issue to this once before years ago (perhaps in version CS4 or 5?) but it was with a single page pdf, and the only thing I could do was convert it to a TIFF in photoshop and place it into the document. That would be incredibly time consuming for this instance as the script is placing a file thats about 60+ pages long. Is there any solution to this? Much appreciated.
