How to Save an InDesign File for Older Versions (IDML) Did you know? InDesign files aren't backward compatible by default - a .indd file saved in InDesign 2024 simply won't open in InDesign CC 2019. But there's a simple workaround: export as IDML. What is IDML?IDML (InDesign Markup Language) is an open, XML-based file format that acts as a universal bridge between InDesign versions. Any version of InDesign from CS4 onwards can open an IDML file - making it the go-to format when collaborating with colleagues or clients on older software.But backward compatibility is only half the story. IDML is also one of the most reliable ways to recover a corrupted InDesign file. Because IDML is XML-based rather than binary, exporting a damaged .indd to IDML and then reopening it often strips out the corruption that's causing crashes, freezes, or "cannot be opened" errors - even when other recovery methods fail. Many InDesign users keep this trick in their back pocket specifically for emergencies, no
Hi, I do have some old files are using PageMaker 6.5. I try to use InDesign 2022 to open it, seems not working. May I know How to open it and save it as PDF
I can’t delete the note icons. I can get them to temporarily disappear but they always come back. They are a carryover from the file I copied so I could use the same styles and formatting. I saved it as an .idml file but that didn’t take care of the issue.
Hi there,Please could anyone tell me if there is a way to (or why we cannot) reorder the colours in the drop-down colour palette…?I have created several colour groups and swatches (lower down the list than shown in the image below), but there doesn’t seem any easy way to simply reorder it so the colours and groups I use most are on the top… It would be so much easier if I could just move my favourite / regular colours by clicking on the line and moving it up or down the list. This would seem an easy thing to implement, but no-one seems to know why the functionality is not already there. What am I missing, and can anyone help?I note there is not even an “Adobe Indesign” category in the drop-down list for Feature Requests, so I’d like to know where I’m supposed to be sending this… ?R A B
It’s simple. Unable to open Elements 2019 as stated in my question. Note that I have a student/teacher edition.
Hello everyone, this is practical and worth researching.Prerequisite: I have already selected cells from multiple columnsResult: Select the corresponding column in the current text box. Or the corresponding column of the entire table (header and footer are not selected)Manual drag and drop can be implemented, but scripts should be able to implement it. Perhaps you have a good idea.
I have been trying to figure this out for several days now. I’m using 2025 InDesign on a Mac. I have one merge file with images that works just fine and I use it all the time. I’m trying to set up a separate merge file with a lot more images. I fixed several errors that were causing me to get the “missing image” error. Despite all that, I now get no errors but a merge file with text and blank boxes where the images should be. I have noticed one other difference between the merge file that works and the one that doesn’t: In the working one, my image frame has the correct column name <<logo>> inside the frame where the image should be, but the one not working does not display any text. Would be so grateful for a solution!And just to cover my bases, yes the column has an @ sign, and yes, I tried putting the spreadsheet in the same folder as the images and using the image file name, which got me the same result: No errors, but the frames are still blank after merge. I even chec
Using Windows 11, current version of InDesign.Trying to complete the digital/ebook version of a book.First, I’m not new at this. Been writing and doing my own publishing for 37 years. I have never had this particular glitch before.No matter what I do, all my centered graphics are left-aligned when exported to epub. The exact same file does fine in both 8x10 and 6x9 print versions, using all the same graphics and settings.Object styles are used for all graphics.I’ve tried using other graphics I’ve used many times before with no problems, and graphics I’ve never used. Same result.I’ve tried resetting the default graphics style, even creating a new one.I’ve tried using a new template, both my own, and ones offered in ID panel.I’ve closed ID and reopened. I’ve rebooted my computer.I’ve checked for updates on PC and in Adobe CC.I’ve rolled back InDesign to previous version (as suggested repeatedly on various forums and help sites). This did not change the problem. Graphics are still left-al
Already posted in the Acrobat forum but I think it belongs here.Machine is a Zenbook Duo (Windows 11). When exporting a relatively small (five page) document to PDF, InDesign hangs and never recovers.Workaround is to tick the “Create separate PDF files” checkbox and combine the pages afterwards.Is this a known bug or am I doing something wrong? I’ve used InDesign for years and have never before seen this behavior.

One of my friends from Poland already receive it ID v2022Is there some more guys who's have it in CC App new v2022 to download? So strange new politic from Adobe that not all have ability to install new versions.
When working in InDesign, entire objects (text fields, color areas, linked images) disappear and are no longer displayed. Not even their frames. The layers cannot be selected by clicking on the location where the elements are located. Zooming into the document or changing the view mode doesnt change anything in the visability of the objects. However, the objects are still there in the layers window. Similarly, when exporting a PDF, the invisible objects become visible again. I can make the objects visible again by copying and pasting them onto a new page or by saving an IDML and opening it. However, the objects keep disappearing when working in the file.Tested with GPU turned on and off.
Hej. Jag har försökt under flera månader, eller enstaka tillfällen under några månader att installera programmet. Det går inte. Det öppnas flera sidor “du är inloggad, stäng detta fönstret” Brandväggen är av medans jag hämtar och installerar.
It has been working with no problems for years but now I am unable to open. If double clicking a file to launch, it will get as far as displaying the file but then freezes. If launching InDesign from the task bar, it will open the standard UI display but then will freeze.The pre-flight shows "checking" and I can hear the PC working on something in the background, but nothing within InDesign works and I have to end task using Task Manager.I have uninstalled/installed numerous times but still having the same issue. I have also gone through the delete preferences process.

How can I export full bleed images to reflowable epub? My exported images got a thick white border around on Kindle Previewer.
We have all quietly noticed that the colour picker in Indesgn used to pick up whatever color you hovered over within the document. We feel it stopped working like that a few updates ago - it now picks up whatever is in the top layer, and that is not interesting to us, as its often part of a text box above the image we are trying to pick the colour from. This issue leaves us going back and forth between photoshop and Indesign just to single out colours, which works against us in our workflow.
Hello everyone,I have kinda an issue with my Indesign and can't find a way to solve it.As you can see in the picture below I have 2 sizes in my text at the same time.This mostly happens when I copy my page with text and then change the size.When I change the pt to a round number the second number keeps coming back.Does anyone know how I can solve this problem? And keep it form happening?{Renamed by MOD}
Sequence of events:Linked in new image for left-hand frame—“When You Feel Anxious” Linked in new image for right-hand frame—“When You Doubt Your Worth” Scrolled away Came back Left-hand image is “blued”Other notes of interest:These are, unfortunately, RGB AI-Generated PNGs provided by our client I updated to a CMYK TIF and was unable to replicate the issue This seems to ONLY happen with that one image/frame, not the others
