Exact same thing is happening to me. When dragging clips around the timeline, after letting go, the mouse will freeze for a few frames. It makes editing extremely annoying and frustrating.

I have found that 12.1 allows the solo/unsoloing fix to work. The latest version is the bad one - there is no possible fix on 12.1.1 from what I know. I can deal with the solo fix, it’s quick and easy. Regardless, shocking that Adobe didn’t see this in testing. I’m seeing people complain about this bug even on Twitter, I never see that happen.

Soloing/unsoloing doesn't fix it for me. The original fix I was doing was creating a new Sequence and copying over everything to it, but now that doesn't work anymore. I even tried downgrading to 12.1 and 12.0 and that doesn't work either. This bug literally corrupts your .prproj file. I just lost hours of work over this bug. Unbelievable.

I think I've actually figured out the problem. When a clip is highlighted in the timeline (the clip is white), the issue is almost always going to happen either instantly or within about 10 seconds of playback. When no clips are highlighted and playback starts, the issue doesn't happen ever. This is really weird and specific so it might only fix it for me, but hopefully this helps out someone else.

None of the solutions here have helped me at all. Nothing works. This issue is now happening to me outside of multicam projects too. The footage I have is about 30 minutes so it's not like they're super long. Really really frustrating.

That isn't true. FCP on macos completely destroys Premiere in performance, even on my high end PC. I own a 15" 2017 macbook pro. Also, no troubleshooting has worked with this bug. This problem just started happening to me outside of multicamera now too. Great. The only temporary solution I think I've found is by minimising the audio layers to make them small - it seems to make the freezes slightly shorter and less often. But not by much. But it's very frustrating not being able to see the full waveform.

I just dragged an audio clip into the timeline and it froze then crashed. Quality product.

I've had this bug for such a long time. It's absolutely ridiculous, it's STILL happening on CC 2018 with multicam sequences. I have installed everything on SSDs & have very good specs. i7 4790k, 1080ti, 32gb ram, samsung 850s etc. What's wrong with Windows+Premiere? Why does it run so poorly? My macbook can handle this flawlessly on Final Cut. Embarassing.
