Analyzer in Acrobat Is Now HIPAA Ready

Analyzer in Acrobat is now HIPAA ready. Eligible customers can use it for applicable workflows involving Protected Health Information (PHI) once the required Business Associate Agreement (BAA) and product enablement steps are complete. Here's what that means and how to get started:

1. What Analyzer in Acrobat does

Analyzer in Acrobat extracts structured, auditable data from documents at scale. You define the attributes you want to capture, such as contract values, dates, or terms, and Analyzer extracts them across a collection of documents. You can then review, validate, and export the results.

2. How this helps Pharma and Life Sciences organizations

Document-heavy teams in pharma and life sciences work with agreements, study documentation, and regulated records.  Here are two examples where HIPAA readiness applies:

  • Clinical trial document review: Extract protocol terms, consent provisions, and reporting obligations from clinical trial agreements and study documentation. Example attributes: consent version, protocol deviations, site ID.
  • PHI records compliance review: Extract structured data from records that contain PHI to support regulatory review. Example attributes: PHI redaction status, applicable regulation, review status.

These examples are illustrative, and there are many more ways to use Analyzer once HIPAA readiness is enabled.

3. Getting started

HIPAA readiness isn't automatically enabled with product access. To request it, contact your Adobe Sales representative with your Account ID and a note that you intend to process PHI in Analyzer. Then the following process will be kicked off:

  • Step 1: Determine whether an applicable BAA is in place, and execute one, if needed.
  • Step 2: Confirm the BAA has been executed and enable HIPAA readiness within Analyzer in Acrobat.
  • Step 3: Notify your organization that HIPAA readiness enablement is complete.

There are no HIPAA settings for your admins to configure. Please don't process PHI in Analyzer until Adobe confirms enablement. Learn more on how to enable HIPAA readiness.

4. Confirming status

Once enablement is complete, product administrators can check the status within: Analyzer in Acrobat > Settings > General Settings. The read-only Linked HIPAA Business Associate Agreement setting is selected when Adobe has linked your organization to an applicable executed BAA and enabled HIPAA readiness. Learn more about how to view HIPAA readiness status.

5. What to know

  • Scope: The HIPAA-ready designation applies to Analyzer in Acrobat. For information about the designation of other Acrobat Studio experiences, please refer to the Adobe HIPAA-Ready Services page.
  • Eligibility: Current guidance applies to U.S. healthcare covered entities under HIPAA. For questions about eligibility or contracting, contact your Adobe account team.
  • Responsibility: Your organization remains responsible for using Analyzer in accordance with its BAA and applicable HIPAA requirements.
