Audition Beta 'not responding' after recording in multitrack

Kind of the second time this has happened. Somewhat new to Audition- a crash led days of lost work and an even later dissertation because... exhaustion. I switched to beta and redid everything. all was well until I began to record, it started to slow down. Then I had my first crash. I redid a few hours of work, saved more frequently and again, just before saving in multitrack after recording, it is unresponsive. I simply cannot deal with this again,. I have left it alone and waiting for it to "figure itself out" but I need to move on.
