P: Camera Raw & DNG: Zeiss Batis 85 - wrong profile

In yesterday's version (6.9) the problem with auto applying the lens correction profile for the Batis 85 was solved. But the profile itself is still problematic. In my opinion the distortion correction that the profile applies is way too much. From slight pincushion it takes the photo to a big barrel distortion. Furthermore, the vignetting correction is way off. It can be tested on a gray, even image. The resulting corners will be too bright compared to the center after the correction.

Thanks for looking into this!
About the barrel distortion - it's not as obvious as the vignetting, it might be just my preferences. Looking at a geometric image it seems fine.

Quick follow up.

Vignette corrections were indeed way off, mainly at wide apertures. I can easily correct this in a v2 profile.

I compared the distortion numbers generated by the camera and the data from Zeiss. The are essentially identical and a test chart revealed that the distortion correction (pincushion) appears to be fine.

If you would like to submit a test image I can review for the distortion correction, please send me a link to one.

In the meantime, you should be able to rely on the correction sliders on the lens panel to fine tune the corrections.

Hi,

Thanks for the feedback.

This particular lens profile was generated from pure optics model data supplied by Zeiss. We will investigate potentially improving this profile.

For your reference, I've filed bug #CR-4197238.
