P: Cannot read the serial number of the Panasonic GH series cameras

Lightroom 5.7.1 (and older ones like version 3) fail to get the serial number of the Panasonic GH-1 and GH-3 camera bodys from JPEG or RW2 files (the serial number of the lens is read correctly). Why? Nikon cameras seem to work more thoroughly.
Free tools like exiftool can read the serial number of the camera body from JPEG and RW2.

This issue should be fixed in Lightroom Classic (7.0 or later).

Hi Ulrich, I've sent you an email inviting you to the Lightroom prerelease to test out a build that contains a fix for this issue.

The serial internal number is not the one printed on the body, but it seems to be unique. May quess is that "X15" is the production place, 2014:03:02 is the production date, and "no. 0132" is the sequential number.
Maybe some day Panasonic will care what customers say about their products, and fix things ,-)
How would I use this serial number in Lightroom? To find all photos taken with a specific camera, to make calibration specific to a specific camera body, just to give two examples.

The standard for camera metadata, Exif, does not provide a standard property for a camera serial number. Some camera makers record this sort of thing in a private maker note in the file.

I tried Exiftool on some of our test files and it reports something it labels "Internal Serial Number" with values like "(X15) 2014:03:02 no. 0132". It might be possible for Lightroom to read this too, and adding support to Lightroom to read serial numbers from more private maker notes is a reasonable feature request. But I'd like to know how would you actually use this Serial Number in Lightroom.

Thanks for your feedback,
David
