P: DNG Converter - backward compatibility broken?

The backward compatibility of DNG Converter seems to be broken, in particular it creates Opcode List 2 tags even when "Camera Raw 4.6 and later" or "DNG 1.1" compatibility is selected (both of which do not support Opcode List tags, as they were introduced with DNG 1.3 and Camera Raw 5.4).

This is on macOS 14.6.1 (Sonoma) and I can observe this back to at least version 13.0 (probably the oldest version that still works on Sonoma).

Hi @geni1105!

Could you provide more details, like screenshots or a sample of an affected file? Also, which version of DNG Converter are you using?

Thanks!

Alek

Here are example files https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fo/bq475f3hsfet80qpslvho/ACJn8oYnNyARCBfLHTBqXiU?rlkey=jil5w83z7s4hwago7r8b8q8ww&dl=0

I am using DNG Converter 17.1 but the issues also occurs with earlier versions down to (I think) 12.x

  • DP3M0963.X3F is an original RAW file from a Sigma DP3 Merrill
  • DP3M0963.X3F.dng has been created using x3f tools. As this dng cannot be read correctly by some raw converters, I am running it through a 2nd conversion step.
  • DP3M0963.X3F-conv.dng is the result of the 2nd step, using Adobe DNG Converter with DNG compatibility set to DNG 1.1 (essentially to flatten out the opcode list tags). This works with old version of Adobe DNG Converter (e.g. 10.1) but not with newer versions.

Besides Opcode List 2 tags still present in DP3M0963.X3F-conv.dng, also black levels are wrong and lead to a color cast in dark tones.
