P: Lumix S5 monochrome profiles having red hue

Hi there!

 

I'm a Panasonic Lumix S5 user and I tend to prefer the camera matching profiles instead of the Adobe ones. I noticed however that when I use the camera matching monochrome profiles they all have a weird red hue mostly in shadow areas and the histogram confirms this. The problem is not present with Adobe Monochrome and is very subtle. I attached an example where I increased the saturation to make the red hue issue even more visible.

    Confirmed that with the Camera Monochrome v2 camera-matching profile, I don't see the red hue on one of the sample images above. Here's the difference between the v1 and v2 profiles computed in Photoshop:

      What WB was set in camera? And was in camera WB shift involved  (either intended or accidental)

      Auto white balance, no wb shift. The issue isn't present in JPG files.

      I don't observe that problem in my LR 13.2 / Mac with sample S5 or S5M2 raws downloaded from dpreview.com, e.g.

      Troubleshooting steps:

       

      1. Do the LR menu command Help > System Info and copy/paste the entire contents here so we can see exactly which versions of hardware and software LR thinks you're running and important LR options that are set.

       

      2. Select a sample raw with the problem and do Metadata > Save Metadata To File.

       

      3. Upload that file and its .xmp sidecar to Dropbox, Google Drive, or similar and post the sharing link here. This will let us see if the issue can be reproduced on other installations or is specific to yours, suggesting further troubleshooting.

      The histogram in my LR 13.2 shows small differences in the red channel in that example, e.g. (47.5, 46.7, 46.7), though they're not visible to my not-very-discerning eye on my Macbook Pro screen:

       

      I can see even smaller histogram differences in some of the sample S5 raws I downloaded from dpreview.com:

       

       

      I wonder if the hue also appears in JPEGs taken by the camera when you set Photo Style to L.Monochrome? It may be that Adobe's profile is accurately approximating the camera's Photo Style, or it may that the profile's approximation is introducing the hue.

       

      Take a raw and a JPEG simultaneously with Photo Style set to L.Monochrome, and examine the two in LR (and upload them here).
