Xiaomi 17 Ultra Telephoto DNG is not correctly identified by Camera Raw
Xiaomi 17 Ultra Telephoto DNG is not correctly identified by Camera Raw
Environment
- Adobe Camera Raw / Lightroom Classic 15.4.1
- Xiaomi 17 Ultra
- Native DNG files captured directly by the phone
Summary
The Telephoto camera of the Xiaomi 17 Ultra appears not to be identified correctly by Camera Raw.
This causes two independent features to fail:
- Automatic Lens Profile matching.
- Automatic DCP camera profile matching.
The Wide and Ultra Wide cameras of the same device work correctly.
Steps to reproduce
- Open a native DNG captured with the Wide camera.
- The correct Adobe Lens Profile is automatically selected.
- A custom DCP profile whose UniqueCameraModel matches the DNG is correctly listed and can be selected.
- Open a native DNG captured with the Ultra Wide camera.
- Same correct behaviour.
- Open a native DNG captured with the Telephoto camera.
- No Lens Profile is automatically selected, although the correct profile exists and can be selected manually.
- A custom DCP profile with the matching UniqueCameraModel is never listed in the Profile Browser.
Investigation
Separate DCP profiles were created for each camera module using Lumariver Profile Designer.
The generated profiles required editing the UniqueCameraModel field so that it exactly matched the value stored in the Xiaomi DNG files.
After this correction:
- Wide DCP: works correctly.
- Ultra Wide DCP: works correctly.
- Telephoto DCP: never matches.
The DCP profiles contain no CameraCalibrationSignature, therefore matching depends on UniqueCameraModel.
As an additional verification, I modified a working Wide DCP by replacing only its UniqueCameraModel with the Telephoto UniqueCameraModel.
The modified profile:
- no longer matched the Wide camera (expected),
- still did not match the Telephoto camera.
This suggests that the Telephoto DNG is not being recognized as a valid camera identity for DCP matching, despite the UniqueCameraModel matching the DNG metadata.
Additional observation
The Telephoto DNG does not contain a standard LensModel tag.
This may explain why automatic Lens Profile matching also fails.
Since both automatic Lens Profile matching and DCP profile matching fail only for the Telephoto camera, they may depend on the same internal camera identification process.
Files available
I can provide:
- Original Wide DNG
- Original Ultra Wide DNG
- Original Telephoto DNG
- The corresponding DCP profiles used during testing
if they are useful for reproducing and investigating the issue.
Please let me know if there are additional diagnostic files or metadata dumps that would help identify the root cause. I would be happy to provide them.
