Serious File Corruption After Crash – Possibly Linked to “Enhanced Save” Feature (Illustrator Beta)

I’ve been experiencing a major issue in Illustrator Beta where, after a crash, the reopened file is completely corrupted — text is scrambled, fonts are replaced, and the whole layout gets distorted. The file becomes unusable, and I have to rebuild everything from scratch.

I believe this may be related to the new “Enhanced Save”, which saves only changes instead of the full file.

Since disabling this setting, the issue no longer occurs — recovered files open normally again.

Just wanted to report this in case others are facing the same, and hopefully it can be addressed in future updates. I’ve also taken before-and-after screenshots to show the difference.

Hi @A30174012abpa Thank you for reporting this. This might be connected to a known font bug, which should be fixed in the most recent Beta 29.7.0.88 Please check out this Uservoice request and let us know if you're still facing this issue in the newest build. https://illustrator.uservoice.com/forums/601447-illustrator-desktop-bugs/suggestions/49871712-fonts-changing-in-files-when-opened-in-illustrator
