Hey all….

Android user here (Sorry… I turn group chats green!)  Just wondering if there’s any signifiant differences between the App Store and Play Store versions of Aqua?  Thanks!

Hey Donnie! Great question! The goal is for there not to be any significant differences between the two versions, however the Play Store (Android) version is currently in Beta, so there may be a few bugs to work out over the next couple weeks. If you find any, do let us know! Our engineering team is actively bashing those bugs as we speak :)

The iOS and Android versions of Aqua offer the exact same core functionality, so you will not miss out on any features by using an Android phone.

The minor differences come down to platform mechanics rather than the app itself:

  1. Visual Style: The app uses Android’s Material Design guidelines on Android devices and iOS’s Human Interface Guidelines on iPhones, meaning buttons, menus, and navigation bars will look slightly different to fit your phone's native look.

  2. System Permissions: Settings for notifications, background data, and storage access follow each phone's specific operating system rules.

  3. Update Release Schedules: Because Apple and Google have different app review processes, a new software update might arrive on one platform a day or two before the other.

In all seriousness, this is great news! The panel I use at school uses apps that live in Google Play (Android)-- so hearing that things are being designed to be the same (iOS vs android) is great!  Working out the bugs is the best work-- done over the summer and before back to school is a serious win!  Thank you!
