Artboard Grids, Background Color, and Clipping
I know Figma has all these features, but I would love to see them in Illustrator.
Grids
I would love to have grids (rows, columns, or pixels) specific to the artboard and not the entire Canvas. This is so useful—especially for layouts. You could do this in XD, it would be nice for Illustrator to do the same.
The Problem: Right now, I have to recreate a grid every time there is a new artboard. If I move an artboard, then my grid is off as well.
Background Color
Instead of making a shape that fills the entire background of the artboard. Having the feature to change the artboard background from white to whatever color, grade point, or pattern would be nice.
The Problem: I always have to create the shape to get the background color I want, but then I either have to lock that layer or I have to avoid grabbing it when I'm working in the artboard.
Clipping
Being able to clip whatever goes beyond your artboard would be so nice. This also cleans up your overall canvas as well.
The Problem: Right now, I have to create a transparent clipping mask to hide what I don't want to see.
Again, I know these are all features Figma has and there are probably some IP issues with replicating these features, but these are what make me go to Figma before Illustrator when I'm designing anything with a layout.
