Sampler 8K export still not there 2023

Hi all,

this is on the same topic of 8K export. One of your team members named "Cyril Dellenbac" replied to the previous opened one and also emailed me that with the last update of Sampler 4.2 there is an AI upscale feature and I should check this feature while the original post locked.

The upscale feature has nothing to do with the 8K export request that has been out for many years.

Please put this up as priority again and give us a solution since sampler stays behind and out of many pipelines with this limitation.

One could said that we can upscale the final 4K materials to 8K but that's not the solution we are looking for. Dealing with hi quality photos to materials workflow in the asset creation industry 8K is a must and sampler simply doesn't do that.

Are there any updates on that topic?

As mentionned upthere, the feature has been released.

Hello!

If you don't want to use the Upscale, you can also bring your 8K textures and process and export them in 8K as shown below:

- The "Image Import" layer is at the 8K resolution, true resolution of your textures (Red rectangle)

- You can set all upper layers as "Relative to Input" to work in 8K (Yellow rectangle)

- You can export in 8K (Yellow rectangle)

We started a long background job to switch to Vulkan & Metal (more modern graphics API than OpenGL) that will allow us to better manage the GPU resources and provide a good experience of authoring and exporting 8K materials.

Thanks

Hi again @aastranet, hello everyone

In fact, the Upscale and the 8K export are related, but I should have been clearer, so let me correct my mistake.

With the 4.2.0 release, we added three major features to Substance 3D Sampler.

  1. The New Image to Material (which isn't directly related to our current issue)
  2. The AI Upscale filter
  3. and the Layer Resolution

Layer Resolution is a significant change to the current workflow in Sampler. Prior to 4.2.0 you had no control over the resolution of each layer, except for the document size, which couldn't go over 4K. Now you have a deeper control on every layer, and if the document resolution is still capped at 4096x4096, the layers aren't. Therefore, it's perfectly possible to have the results of the layer stack (as well as the export) in 8K, even if the document resolution isn't.

As for the AI Upscale filter, it allows  you to increase your work to whatever resolution you wish. Ultimately, you could start with a 512x512 image, and ended up with 16K exported bitmaps if you wanted (although, I'm not sure the result would be optimal).

I hope this helps you with your work.

Best regards,

Imho an app like sampler that serves a specific industry must meet the highest standards. The highest standards are RAW images of 8K resolution. Then if someone works with lower specs then is great for them. And is the only app left behind in 2023 that does not support native export 8K.

I personally believe that in most cases, 4K can already meet the majority of needs. If high-quality 8K is needed, it is usually necessary to provide images with 8000 * 8000 lossless pixels or more. This may seem a bit difficult, but of course, some people may have a demand for it

Agreed, this should be a top priority. I have been waiting years for this feature and this is the only reason as to why I am not subscribing to the software.
