Media Server (read-only)

Hello all, my first post so be gentle please.... Our web developers are using a flash media server, version 3 i think. They are using RTMPE to deliver videos on demand... I need to be able to monitor this server so if it dies or stops responding to stream requests, i need to know about it... Now i use Nagios to monitor other stuff like, ping, HTTP, FTP, ect... How would i monitor the server application port(1935) itself, as i am sure its possible for the application to die but the server still be pingable...?? Any ideas? Thanks.. Hi there. Just installed FMS3.5 and obtain very low output quality. On a side-by-side comparison of the capture and output ( FMS start page ) the stream on the output size is big time choppy and pixelized. I read that FMS is doing automatic bandwith detection but even that, I'm testing on localhost. Is there some specific setup on server side ? Thanks for help.

I have just installed FMS3.5 on centos 5. Having a lot of troubles, though the installation was smooth. After I restarted FMS services, I cannot even open the page /videoplayer.html and /fms_adminConsole.htm I could open these just after the installation. I can see all the correct processes running: fmsmaster fmsedge fmscore fmsadmin What am I doing wrong here?

I cannot figure out if it is possible to use other directories for streaming files rather than the installed FMS root, i.e. /opt/adobe/fms/applications/vod/media Can I use other directories? I wanted to use a meta base in the xmil file, ex <meta base="rtmp://www.mydomain.com/AFMS/clips/" /> and place streaming files accordingly. Can i do this somehow?

Is it possible, if so HOW ?

hi All, I have just installed FMS 3.5 on centos 5. The installation was smooth, no errors; and I am trying to set up servers. I cannot login to the admin panel. And checking what is wrong here: 1) ./fmsmgr adminserver start ==> all fine, message "Starting Adobe etc..." 2) ./fmsmgr server start ==> not fine, message "Server service start not found" 3) ./fmsmgr server fms start ==> all fine message "Starting Adobe Flash media server" Still, i cannot login to the admin panel. What is wrong here? why ./fmsmgr server start is not working? please, help....

My question may seem rhetorical but isn't really. I'm accustomed to the Real Media Helix server, which I've run for several years on an eight year old 733mhz x86 processor with 768mb memory on Win 2003. Don't laugh ;-), it's true and works well *for our number of typically connected users (double digits).* So to me it makes sense to clarify what FMS is doing besides reading files and managing a network connection. Is there, for example, non-obvious CPU-bound processing going on in there? I thank you.

Planning to get one. It would be nice if Adobe update a new "capture card hardware list" which works with FME You cant found nothing on the net about avivo + FME, even I used X1900XT with FME for almost 2 yrs. Till now my X1900XT is failed with random white dots also series VPU crashing, also hang up with a black screen.

If I have a connected Remote SharedObject, and I read a property/slot (e.g. so.data["myProp"]), would that data be read from a local cache (or RAM) or would the SO actually make a call to FMS? I'm wondering if I can read SharedObject properties with impunity.

I'm looking for a good video gallery that works well with a flash media server. It would be great if this gallery also had a "share this video with a friend" link, which sends an email to a friend with a link to our page. I've ran across tons of great gallerys in my search, but nothing that works with a FMS. Does something like this exist, or will I need to build it? Thanks!

Hi We have FMS 3 installed in two boxes with load balancer and we wanted to know max connections and bandwidth information of that FMS server. After viewing few topics here, I feel its included as part of license agreement. FMS is installed in Linux box and we don't have GUI for that to view license information with Management Console. How can I view max client connections and bandwidth information of the installed server. Thanks in advance,

I installed fms interactive on my computer. I upload my flash to my web hosting server. I use my ip address/myvideo. I am able to access my vod files locally but I can't access my local server over the net no video showing. How can i fix the problem. everything works locally. I'm using windows XP. Hi, We have some Flash 8 streamed video encoded at around 380kbps designed for viewers on 512kbps connections. If the connection is made using RTMP on port 1935, everything is fine but if the viewer is behind a firewall and the connection drops down to RTMPT on port 80 they see continual video pauses with buffering messages. I can reproduce this by disabling port 1935 on my router. I think there are two possible reasons for this problem: 1) the number of bytes added to the stream by HTTP tunnelling over port 80 is very large, 2) because HTTP is a non-persistent protocol, there is significant time added for packets to be transferred. I'm guessing it is probably the later which is the culprit so my question is, how do I calculate an encoding bit rate to ensure correct streaming over the tunneling protocol? Thanks, Andrew

Sir, i get the following error soon i start FMS .I tried to encode my web cam video with FME and stream to FMS . We would like to install and use FMS 3 on an existing streaming media server (IBM SERVE RAID) running Redhat Enterprise Linux 4ES, using Webmin 1.290. How would one install the server and specify path to server for live streaming off Live Connect and other applications that will be using flash video ( .flv) files. Any assistance is appreciated!

Was wondering if anyone was having issues trying to install the flash media interactive server on a RedHat Enterprise Linux machine. It seems that the installer that is packaged with the program in incompatiable. If so what are you doing to get the server installed? Thanks for any help

Instaled FMS3 on my Linux box, but some strange things happen with virtual host configuration: 1. add virtual host directory to /conf/_defaultRoot_ (just making a copy of _defaultVHost_). It contains all needed files - Application.xml and Vhost.xml with default settings 2. Restart the server When I login into admin console, new vhost appears in the list, but it's impossible to connect to it, or just restart it. Permissions are ok. Am I forgetting something?

Hi All, I'm working on a project with FMS and I am brand new to FMS. I've been tasked with figuring out how files will be uploaded to the FMS server. What we would like is for the user to be able to browse to the file on their local system, select the file, and then hit the upload button and see a progress indicator showing the progress of the upload as it runs. Does FMS provide something like this? If so, how is it accomplished (activex control, java, flash object, other) ???

Hi, I have installed FMS3 developer on my server Ubuntu8.10. Some libraly were installed. Now, (I hope so) my "fmscore" is ok ! I checked out my file "fms.ini" to make sure everything is ok ! I checked my port 1935 and 1111 is working. But, in fact, Or mysite:1935/fms_adminConsole.htm and vodtest sample site is not working. It says "connection refused.". Could you help me please !

Hi all, I have a little problem here. I am trying to import an embed FLV video into Flash with the "Import Video" wizard. After i publish into 3 files which is .html, .swf and MojaveExternalAll.swf (Skin). In my computer, i try to open the html and swf files, everything work fine After I deployed all the 3 files into my website server (include the FLV video file in same folder) I open the files again in the server, the .swf works fine but when i open the html file the video cannot show. (seems like couldn't link at all). I don't know what happened, could anyone please help me to solve this problem? Thanks in advance, Clive Hong

Donwloaded the development edition of media server 3.5 (10 user copy) Can you run it in a VMWare instance or do you need physical hardware? I am getting Licence.Limit.Exceeded errors when FMS had several hundred connections although I have unlimited connections licence. Because of this error, FMS rejected all further connections. Here is log: 2009-01-30 20:50:41 11220 (i)2651182 (_defaultRoot_, _defaultVHost_) : Max connections allowed exceeds license limit. Is there a way to check for the IP address of referrer? I want to know the IP address of where the SWF is being hosted at. The reason why I ask is that we host multiple sites from the same ip address with elaborate url masking. Rather than always adding/changing the server side code to allow for all these different sites, or changing the relevent .xml config file, I think it'd be easier to just check for the IP address of where the SWF is being hosted in. Unfortunately, Client.ip only gives you the page that uses the SWF, not where the SWF is actually being hosted in. Any idea on how to get this? Many thanks!!!

Hi, Is it possible to get hold of the .FLA source file of the videoplayer.swf in FMS 3.5 please? I would like to be able to theme the colors for our players to the corporate themes if possible.
