Hey Pros.
We are looking to upgrade our 2012 IMac(it's our secondary computer) to the new 2020 5K IMac. We have a Puget Systems PC as our main computer, but like to have a Apple on hand just in case.
We thought of buying it with a :

-10 core processor

-Radeon Pro 5700 XT with 16GB of GDDR6 memory

-2TB storage

-adding 64GB memory(OWC btw)

I cannot find any reviews with the computer running Premiere(only DaVinci and FCX). Please advise if this machine will work efficiently with Premiere and any specs on hardware would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time. Jim

You may have to wait for the next release of Premiere Pro in order for that new iMac 27" refresh (or any other PC with a discrete AMD Radeon GPU of recent generations) to run Premiere Pro properly. You see, currently available versions of Premiere Pro have a bug with both Metal and OpenCL in terms of green stripes all over the preview image. That makes it difficult or even impossible to judge the result of what you'd be trying to perform.

By the way, I did see a few results in the PugetBench results list for an iMac of very similar specifications to your planned configuration: As usual, its overall score is lower than most other PCs with the same CPU. macOS Macs typically deliver much lower export performance than Windows PCs do, thus dragging down the overall performance score significantly.

Hi around,
I'm planing a refreshment for my current iMac, too. Nearly same specificartion:

I was about the 5700XD, too, but read other issues of users having prblems with this cards (glitches etcs), so I think better to stay with the 5500 XT.

Are there any news about the current situation AE, PP and PS are 100% essential for me, as well as AI and INDD for pure graphic Design works. So anything causing severe issues for now with one of these apps makes any purchase to a no-brainer for now.

Appreciate your experiences, thanks a lot and have a great day.
Cheers and stay tuned,

Phil

Sorry, forgot to post my config, and there's no EDIT option (for what reason ever...). So:

- iMac 2020 27" 5k

- i7 8core 3,8GHz or alternatively i9 10core 3,6 Ghz

- 64 GB RAM (if recommended, I could go for 128, too, Crucial 2x32GB or 4x32GB prefered)

- Radeon Pro 5500 XT (thought about 5700XT 16Gb, but this one seems to have some issues, too)

- 2 TB SDD

Why?

Because that's where hardware questions are addressed.
