Advice on MacBook Pro Configuration for Premiere Pro Performance

Hi all -

Looking for some advice from those who have MacBook Pro's or are familiar with their performance. I want to scale down from my Windows Desktop to a portable setup because I am traveling a lot and need something to edit with on the go that's capable. I am usually editing 1080P MOV format or 4K MOV/MJPEG with proxies, with a light color grade, some audio processing effects, and a handful of MOGRTs on the timeline.

I want to get a 16'' MacBook Pro but am totally unsure of what is needed vs. not needed in the config. Do I need to prioritize upgrading RAM to 32GB? Should I definitely upgrade to the 8GB graphics? Is the 5.0Ghz "Turbo Boost" worth it? Any help in optimizing my purchase / spend would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

One significant problem with going Mac:

Catalina.

Search the forums for "Adobe" and "Catalina," and you will find many threads about the problems running the Adobe software properly. And if your MBP comes shipped with Catalina, you cannot downgrade to Mojave at all.

I've moved this from the Premiere Pro forum Video Hardware forum.

Put your money in the GPU for sure. If you can rely on lightweight proxies, then you should be fine with most setups, of course, the more you upgrade the better performance you'll get. If you're doing a lot of 4K, then you'll wanna max out everything.
