Able to gather parts to build this desktop. While not the ultimate machine, I'd like to feel comfortable that it would be suitable for working with 4k in Premiere. Any comments or suggestions much appreciated:

  • Core i9-9900K
  • 32GB Trident Z RGB DDR4-3200 RAM
  • MSI GTX 1080Ti 11GB Gaming Card
  • ASUS ROG STRIX Z390-E Motherboard
  • 2TB SiliconPower NVMe SSD
  • Corsair Carbide Spec-Delta Case
  • Thermaltake Smart 700W 80+ W. Power Supply
  • Windows 10 Pro (upgradable to 11)

    Similar to what I built

Windows 10 Pro 64bit, currently at version 21H1
Intel i9-10900k CPU in ASUS-Prime-Z490-P motherboard with 64Gig TEAMGROUP-3200MHz Ram
Seagate-FireCuda 500Gig M.2 for Windows and programs and usual Documents files
500Gig SSD for temporary and output files, 1T SSD for video and picture input files
    Video MSI GeForce GTX 1650 128 Bit Graphics 4Gig GDDR6 Ram driver 456.71 + a DVD drive

I have only worked with a few test 4k files from https://4ksamples.tumblr.com/ but I didn't not have any problems with SMALL files

    Thanks for the input John.

When you say: >>not have any problems with SMALL files<< I'm not quite sure what you mean. Is it just that you haven't had a chance to work with any LARGE files? In my case, large files is one of the main issues. For example we recorded a presentation that lasted nearly two hours. My current setup (older, what used to be "high end" notebook) couldn't handle it when rendering even though it was 1080 source material.

Most projects going forward will be 4k so I definitely need to upgrade!

    I am a hobbyist who edits 1280x720 30fps video from a Canon SX510 camera

As I said, I downloaded some test files just to see if my computer (mostly my video card) would work at all

I wanted an RTX2060 with 6Gig but when I built I could not find one due to Covid shortages

So I can't comment on the files you are going to use
