Photo processing in PS and LR

Editing movies & audio in PR and AE

Extensive Internet usage, heavy file downloads, heavy file sharing (cloud work)

Requirements:

4k screen, precise screen colors,

Fast and powerful processor!( Core i7 minimum), plenty of internal memory

A screen of sufficient size to work (15-17 inch)

memory card reader

Advantages:

Easy to carry, thin and innovative,

battery lasts a long time,

A touchscreen can be used Stylus (digital pen)- for photo editing

good price;)

Seller / Company:

Warranty for a few years

good and reliable service for any problem

also, gaming computers are bulky and ugly but are they better for film editing?

this is my only computer- i don't use a desktop!so it has to be a really good computer for all work!

what would you recommend??

Don't know if you're still looking for a laptop, but Lenovo has the Thinkpad P1 with a 6-core 8th generation Intel Xeon and Nvidia GTX Quadro P200. Dave2D, even though he mostly reviews more gaming and general consumer-oriented laptops, found this thing to be a beast, and the fastest laptop in Premiere he's seen. (Link here: ThinkPad P1 - The Lightest Workstation from Lenovo! - YouTube ) Dell I think has one that has the same processor and graphics card with the screen and chassis of the XPS 15 (just be aware that the XPS 15 has heating issues, especially with the VRM's, and I don't know if those carry over to the workstation variant).

Any "gaming" laptop with an i78750h and GTX 1070 should do fine. The Gigabyte AERO 15x has a second M.2 slot if that's something you want. If your willing to give up the 4k screen (a 15.6-inch 1080p display has almost the same pixel density as a 27inch 4k display), then you could save a good chunk of money and open up a host of options.

Whatever the i9 model in laptops is, due to the heat output, it's really only worth it if it's in a laptop at least an inch thick, and the Xeon above smokes it in Premiere.

Also, keep in mind that as I write this, CES 2019 is wrapping up, which means a bunch of laptops are coming out soon with new RTX cards from Nvidia. The performance of an RTX 2060 is about equal (10ish percent better) from the  GTX 1070, and the RTX 2070 is going to be just about as powerful, if not more than the GTX 1080 from last year. So laptops with the RTX 2060, RTX 2070 (or 2070 Max-Q), and the 2080 (or 2080 Max-Q) are all going to be good options.

Of course, if you can't wait, want something now, and want something that's going to last, get one of the workstations or i7-8750h and GTX 1070 Max-Q combos, which should last a few years, especially if you upgrade the RAM to 32gb from 16gb.  (The "New" Razer Blade, Gigabyte Aero 15x and MSI GS65 come to mind, all about the same price point). Of course, I think the Gigabyte is the only one of those three with a full-sized SD card reader (special bonus, it reads at UHS-II Speeds!), which is sadly becoming less and less common. You'll need a dongle or adaptor with a lot of options these days.

For a touch screen, there are lots of touch screen 4k options, but if you want to really use a stylus, you may need to look into a Wacom tablet or the type.

Plenty of reviews and options on Google, Youtube, etc. that I failed to mention. Hope you find what you're looking for!

The Photoshop part will fit as soon as the video part fits.

I won't suggest a specific hardware, but I will give some general advice.

  • put a lot of memory in
  • get a very good graphic card/chip (look into the specs for Premiere and After Effects)
  • get a lot of fast (SSD!) disks. Depending if you edit HD, 4K or 8K you will need faster disks. 8K will probably need proxy editing, that will be OK however as a tradeoff of performance and convenience...

As for the Internet, any computer is probably faster than your line so that is not a limiting factor. However, if you do wifi, a strong 5g will help.A lot of laptops however support only the 2.4g network.

Now if you travel a lot, go for a 15" system, not too bulky. Else take a 17" and a secondary screen.

...and don't forget your backup solution!!!
