Question

Clockspeed

Getting a new PC for work. IT is trying to push me into one of these two, see screenshot.

The new PC is needed because my current one cannot handle 4K video files at all.

Everything I have read on 4K video files says you need 3.2GHz or faster.

IT is leaning toward the one with the i9-12900 core since it comes in the brand they perfer. But the clock speed is lower than the 3.2GHz. They tell me it's a better one because the turbo speed is higher than the turbo speed on the i9-10900X-3.70GHz.

And no, I am just not going to take their word for it... they picked out my last desktop which is less than a year old... and has never been able to handle 4K video. I'm the only design person in the company so they have no reference point.

What would you pick? Why? What is turbo speed?

Or if these are both a bad choice, let me know.

The i9-12900K is a much better (and newer) choice than the i9-10900K as the 10900K is essentially a rehash of an architecture which dated all the way back to the i7-6700 days of 2015 while the 12900K uses a much newer architecture with better performance per clock cycle.

However, if you can spare a few dollars more for an i7-13700K or an i7-14700K, that would be even better.
