Question

Core i7-8700, i7 7700K, Ryzen 7 2700x, best CPU for Adobe Premiere Pro?

Good morning,

Given the numerous problems of various types encountered lately with Premiere Pro, I was advised to update my CPU.

I generally use Adobe Premiere, Photoshop and Illustrator. With the premiere in Full HD, 4K and occasionally with 6K.

I would like a processor that allows me a good workflow on the timeline, both in playback and applying effects, obviously setting depth of Bit etc. at most.

My indecision is between an Intal i7 8700, an i7 7700k and a Ryzen 7 2700x.

My current processor is an Intel Core i7 930 2.80MHz.

Thank you.

Hi,

I'm also buying a new computer and have to choose between Intel i7 8700K and AMD Ryzen 2700X.

Live preview and workflow in Premiere Pro will work very good on both platforms. Intel has one advantage and it's the QuickSync encoding option in Premiere Pro which can boost encoder times up to 50% using the CPUs build-in 630 graphic chip.

Keep in mind though that video quality will not be as good as software encode.

Ryzen does not have a build-in graphic chip. There's a solution for this. You can install Voukoder plugin to use NVEC in Premiere Pro. NVIDIA graphic card support it. Just like with QuickSync video quality will be slightly worse than CPU encoded.

Alternatively you can save edited Premiere Pro video as an uncompressed format and then compress it in Hybrid using NVEncC which also uses NVIDIA graphic card.

If you decide to go with AMD invest in fast and good SSD drive like the Samsung 970 EVO 500GB PCIe x4 NVMe (cosmic speeds!) and good RAM DDR4 3200 MHz CL14. In combination with good motherboard like Asus PRIME X470-PRO you'll have a rocket workstation.

I'd choose the new RTX 2070 8GB GDDR6. It offers performance between GTX 1080 and 1080Ti and is just 60$ more expensive than 1070Ti.

If you want top performance in Premiere Pro go with professional card like NVIDIA P3000.

Adobe Illustrator will be working like a charm on both 8700K and 2700X.

So what to choose? Well, I think the Ryzen is a better option now. It's much, much cheaper and really fast.

The extra 2 cores will give more multitasking possibilities and more power in some cases.

Future upgrade options - Intel:

This years Intel 9th generation will fit into 1151 socket that's also used with 8700K but 9xxx series prices are sick. Especially in Europe.

I'm quite sure that Intels 10th generation CPUs in 2019 will use different socket. You will need to replace the CPU and the motherboard.

Future upgrade options - AMD:

The Ryzen 3xxx series will be available in Spring 2019. All you need to do is replace the CPU. It will use the same AM4 motherboard socket.

In two years when the DDR5 RAM hit the market you'll need to replace the motherboard no mater if the machine is Intel or AMD based.

Untill then Ryzen will do good job and you'll have possibility to install Ryzen 3xxx produced in 7 nm technology. The expected power boost can be quite big. Ryzen 2xxx like 2700X is 12 nm and Intel is still on 14 nm.

Less nm means more performance, less heat and less power consumption.

Gaming:

Computer is used mainly for work but some like to play.

If you're also a gamer Intel will give more framrates because his single core frequency is higher than AMD. Most games are single core optimized but this current situation is changing. There is a reason why Intel decided to make 8 cores/16 threads with i9 9900K. More and more games will benefit from higher core count.

Ryzen 2700X shows it's potential in resolutions higher than 1080p. Frame rates in games are almost the same in 2K and 4K and sometimes even better on the 2700X.

Intel i7 8700K is favourized by many people. They claim it's a better CPU. Well, it's not. It's just more popular. Sure, it's fast but not that fast to spend extra money on it.

As for Adobe Premiere Pro performance these tests speak for themselves:

I lean toward Ryzen 2700X. It has great price. Spared money can be used to buy more and/or faster memory which is always good or good graphic card which will boost the performance.

I Hope this will help you to choose.

WOWWW !!! This is an answer !!! Thank you!!!

I do not deny that I too was tempted by Ryzen, let's say I have not bought it yet for two reasons:

1) as for the 8700k, also the Ryzen is difficult to buy it (fault of the bitcoins?)

2) because psychologically I have not yet assimilated the fact that Amd has truly returned, the Intel domain has been very long and in my sub-conscious remains the idea that programs and drivers for video cards are more optimized for Intel.

Maybe I'm wrong, I do not know, I have to think about it, I also have to see if I have enough money for a Samsung M.2 and a more powerful ram (the intel goes with ddr4 2666).

Of course I do nothing but see tests in which the Ryzen (albeit slightly) beats Intel in the multicore workflow and this could be enough to move to AMD.

As for the export I see that you are one who understands, I have never loved the fast exports, even the Cuda the first few years was not free from imperfections, we hope that in the future the Quick sync better.

The video card I bought a couple of months ago, and since I do not have a job for now I could only afford an Asus Strick 1060 6GB. Imagine that when I make my choice I can only install 16GB of ram ....

I do not play, I use the PC for work.

I'll think about it, thank you very much for your exhaustive explanation !!!

Good evening

I skimmed the graphics a bit to get the clearest ideas, and in the end they are the same, the Ryzen behaves slightly better on some things and Intel on others.

My choice at this point will fall on the price and availability, in this sense the Ryzen has a lower price and with the same amount that I would spend on motherboard, ram and Intel processor, I take a Ryzen + ram (faster), a m.2 EVO and the motherboard.

Everything is what I find on the market before, because I have little time, and for now Amazon has neither of them ....... without counting it could be that when it will have them will have other prices. I chose the wrong time to do this kind of purchases, MULTINATIONAL DANNERS AND BITCOIN !!!!!
