Hi there,

I'm about to buy a new laptop and i'm hesitating between 2 configuration.

I plan to edit 4k video and do a little bit of After Effect.

It's gonna be 4k 4:2:2 10 bits. 24P 60p 120p

From a Sony A7SIII

The first Config

i7 10875H 8 cores

32gb

SSD 1 To

RTX 2060 6 Go

Or

i910885H 8 cores

64gb

SSD 2 To

RTX 2060 6 Go

I really don't want any lags.

Is the first configuration enough acording to you?

Or should i go with the second one to be safe?

Many thanks to all and sorry for my english

Alex

Between the two, get the second configuration. Despite identical GPUs and nearly equal-performing CPUs, the second one has more RAM and a bigger SSD. You may, however, want to add a second external SSD (either a Thunderbolt 3 or a USB 3.2 Gen 2x1) for your media and projects drive.

Hey,

Thanks for the answer!

The thing is that there is 1000€ of price diference btween the two configuration..

I usualy use external SSD for my project.

I was more concerned about the RAM for Pp and Ae.

I oftenly read that 32gb is enough but i read the oposite too.

I never use Pp or Ae so i really want to be sure to pull the trigger and ad 1000€ to the equation to have a good workflow .

But it seems that the second configuration is the right choice

In that case, that 1000 Euro increase might be a deal breaker. That, IMHO, is much greater than the difference in cost of upgrading the storage and RAM yourself.

But if the cheaper laptop has absolutely no provision whatsoever to change or add components (say, the laptop requires complete and expert disassembly just to get to its upgradeable parts or the parts that are likely to be upgraded are soldered or hardwired to the laptop's motherboard), then you have no choice but to settle with subpar performance or paying too much money.
