Question

Graphics card choice for Premiere and After effects

Hello,

I need to buy a laptop and I would like some advice regarding the graphics card. Since I'll be using Premiere and After Effects is there a difference between NVIDIA GeForce 3050 RTX (4096 MB) and AMD Radeon RX 6500M (4GB)?  Premiere and AE will work well with both graphics cards or one of them is more suitable than the other?

Since I know very about this subject I would be very glad if someone could assist me with this matter.

Between those two GPUs go with the Nvidia GeForce RTX 3050. You see, not only does the AMD Radeon RX 6500M have much lower memory throughput (only 128 GB/s versus the RTX 3050's 192 GB/s), but also the RTX 3050 also has a hardware H.264/HEVC encoder via NVENC (the RX 6500M has only hardware decoding, but no hardware encoder whatsoever). Thus, with the RX 6500M you will be permanently stuck with software-only H.264/HEVC encoding - and even if that laptop with the RX 6500M in question is powered by an Intel CPU with its integrated graphics enabled, you cannot force the IGP to hardware encode at all since the discrete GPU fully takes over from the IGP with absolutely no choice whatsoever.
