Hardware (eg. processor) for After Effects (CC2017/CC 2018) - eg. i7/i9 / Xeon?

Question

Which processor, which will allow at least 128 GB RAM will give the best performance in After Effects?

What about the Xeon W-2155 vs the i9-7900X vs the i7-7820X?

Would the Xeon W-2155 have the lowest heat when under load (it seems it might from the puget systems thermal image) and would that mean less fan noise and maybe greater reliability, and maybe more time at a high turbo speed? The Xeon also seems to support more RAM (eg. one site allows it to be configured ot 256 GB. The intel site says it actually supports up to 512 GB). While it's more expensive than the other 2, the advantages could be it may be more reliable, less noisy. Maybe running cost (electric) could be lower?

What about speed comparisons between all 3?

What are your thoughts on all 3 or other processors (that support 128 GB RAM) for After Effects work etc.?

All three would likely produce similar benchmarking results.

My pick would be the i9-7900x out of these three Intel CPU models and here's why:

- 7900x has Turbo 3.0 (vs. Xeon 2155 which only has Turbo 2.0); 3.0 Turbos the best threads within the CPU

- 128GB should be fine

- 7900x street price is way less than 2155

- 7900x can easily be overclocked with most motherboards (but not Dell, HP workstations)

- 7820x only has 28 PCIe express lanes (others have 40) to prevent any bottlenecks for PCIe cards, video, Optane drives (Optane drives, not Optane memory - as in Intel Optane 905P) down the road

If you want quiet and cool (I know I do), and you live in the US, check out Silicon Lottery and their de-lidding (and binned if you might OC) CPU service. Intel puts lousy thermal paste inside the CPUs and Silicon Lottery replaces that with a much more effective thermal solution.
