I have the Intel HD 620 and want to upgrade to support running GPU accelerated effects. What would you recommend?

If your system is a laptop that relies solely on that iGPU, then NO. You cannot upgrade the GPU at all (at least not internally). And eGPUs are very expensive to purchase for the performance that you'd get.

By the way, the HD 620 should use OpenCL for MPE GPU acceleration. Weakling performance, to be sure, but still better than CPU-only (or software-only) rendering performance.
