Hi guys, my question is simple. I do not create many videos, but I like to do sometimes. Is it possible to convert video into smaller format using encoder if I buy computer with intel i3-8100? Or it is a must to use more powerful processors to work with encoder? Is it possible to work with latest version of Adobe Premiere and encoder using i3-8100 to edit 4k and if yes, then which discrete videocart I need to buy?

Thank you!
Sam

Honestly, Peru Bob is right on the money. The 8th-Generation i3 is, if anything, a bit slower than the 7th-Generation (and even some 6th-Generation) i5 CPUs. That's because these CPUs have only 4 cores without hyperthreading (four threads total), and i3's in general have less L3 cache than i5's do. None of these quad-core/quad-thread CPUs are suitable for anything beyond 1080p/29.97 fps editing. And even at that resolution and frame rate, they already perform about 1.5 times slower than a current-generation (9th-Generation) 6-core/6-thread i5.

thank you for your reply, do I undertsand correctly that there is Quick Sync in all modern Intel processors with integrated graphics, for ex. core i3-8100 or core i5-8400 with Intel UHD Graphics 630? UHD Graphics 630 is what I need to have that Quick Sync or...?

Yes. All Intel CPUs with integrated Intel UHD or Iris Graphics have QuickSync. You just have to make sure that the integrated Intel graphics is enabled in the system's BIOS/EFI in order to use it.

And not all Intel CPUs designed for Socket LGA 1151 (2nd Revision, compatible with all 8th- and 9th-Generation Intel Core CPUs) have integrated Intel graphics. Just stay away from those models which have the "F" at the end of the model number: Those CPUs require a discrete graphics card installed to even work at all, and thus have QuickSync permanently disabled.

I doubt that an i3 would work.  Even if it did, it would not be a happy editing experience.
