i5 11th gen with Iris Xe?

Hi,

I already have a fully functioning setup for video editing but was thinking to buy a smaller laptop for day to day use which could possibly do minor edits on the go.

A friend recommended me a laptop with i5 11th gen with integrated intel iris Xe, 8gb ram. Would this be able to run premiere pro?

I'm looking for something not too expensive as I already have a desktop setup.

Did you get this laptop? I need a laptop for scientific research in college, graphic design, 1080p video editing, and programming. I found laptops with i5 1145g7 and iris xe 16 GB of RAM. Are these specs suitable for that or not?

What is your experience with heat when you export the project?

What are the codec(s) used in the source video that you're planning to use in your workflow? H.264 AVCHD? ProRes? HEVC? MPEG-2? These codecs tax the hardware to wildly varying degrees.

With that said, 8 GB total of system RAM is a little too skimpy in the amount of RAM even for 1080p. If your source material is greater than 1080p (such as 4k), then 8 GB is woefully inadequate.

Also, you weren't clear as to whether your source material is entirely 1080p or that your output resolution is 1080p.

The source material is 1080p and H.264 codec with the same output resolution.

In this case, you will need 16 GB or RAM for that particular laptop. A discrete GPU is also nice to have, but not really necessary. You see, the Iris Xe IGP steals system RAM for itself, making that stolen amount of system RAM completely unavailable for apps and the OS itself. And that is not to mention that the default Windows 10 installation eats up more than 4 GB of RAM for itself, leaving only about 3.75 GB total available for everything else, including the IGP's portion of the shared RAM. This will cause Windows programs, especially RAM-intensive programs like After Effects and the renderers in Premiere Pro, to choke.
