Intel Iris Xe Graphics G7 96EUs VS NVIDIA GeForce MX550

Hey,

I have to decide between two laptop configurations for some office and medium media work (Photoshop, some Premiere Pro editing etc.). They come with 32GB RAM and an Intel I7 1260P. I can chosse between two graphic options:

- Intel XE Graphics G7 96EUs

- NVIDIA GeForce MX550

I heard that some people have problems with the Intel XE in Premiere. Now I'd like to now, if some of you have tested the MX550? Can someone share some experiences? Which card would you suggest?

To be honest, go with the MX550, especially if your laptop is also going to have the Intel UHD or Xe graphics also enabled. Nvidia GPUs by themselves do not perform as well as Intel graphics when decoding (playback) H.264 or HEVC footage. However, the Nvidia GPU outperforms the Intel one when exporting and rendering.

The MX550 is based on a now-two-generation-old Turing architecture (in fact, it is based on the TU117 chip which included an even-older-gen Volta NVENC encoder). On the bright side, the MX5xx series GPUs are the very first MX-series GPUs of any kind to have an ungimped NVDEC decoder and an ungimped NVENC encoder.

Thanks for your reply and opinion!
I know that both cards are just entry level but these are my given choices. I also thought that a dedicated graphics card is better than an integrated. I found some benchmarks online which showed, that the MX550 performes a bit better in most of the tasks.
