New Mac

I have been using LR Classic CC on a 2011 iMac with only 8 GB of ram and I am creating Raw files with a 45 megapixel camera that size up to 50-70mb.  It takes my Mac to a crawl.  I hear from most folks that 32GB is recommended if I want to upgrade but Apple folks are telling me that for still photos 16GB should be plenty.  I do not do video files and have no plan to.  Is 16GB enough or should I stick to the 32GB I hear is best?
