Hi

I am a comple newbie to Premier Pro and just finding my feet. Would anyone know if Premier Pro will work efficently on a PC with the below specs. My first mistake was trying to run PP on my basic laptop. I have an opportynuity to buy a PC with the below specs and was wondering of anyone with more knowelege could help me out, Thanks

It is an old system. That being said if you replaced the graphics card with an RTX 2060 it would work decent but the problem is GPUs are expensive right now.

I have decided to go and get a new PC built. Can I ask what specification PC, you would recommend that I ask a supplier to have built, that will future proof me for the next 2-3 years.

You could get a 12th generation i9, i7 or i5 with iGPU. The iGPU is worth the price of admission. If you get an i5 an RTX 3060 would be a good match for a GPU. If you get an i7 or i9 you would probably want an RTX 3070 or 3080. You want the CPU and GPU to match. I recommend Alder Lake because Premiere Pro can tap into the Quick Sync feature of the iGPU. Premiere Pro can also use Nvidia's Nvenc. The video below might be worth watching.

Not really. The latest versions of Premiere Pro now require 2 GB or more GPU VRAM in order to run properly (4 GB or more VRAM recommended).

And the GTX 660 has recently been EOSL'd by Nvidia itself: All new major driver versions released starting October 2021 now require a newer GPU than your GTX 660 just to even install at all. Any "newer" driver releases for that GTX 660 after that date will be merely security patches for the driver that came immediately before them.

And Premiere Pro 2022 now requires a much newer GPU just to even enable GPU acceleration at all. With that GTX 660, Premiere Pro 2022 will become permanently locked to software-only rendering. This will increase the processing load on your now-outdated 6-core/12-thread i7-3960X, which nowadays falls short of even a new 12th-Generation quad-core i3 Alder Lake CPU in terms of processing power.
