organizing drive for premiere

Hello i have just setup a new pc

I have installed os and apps on 1tb nvme drive

And i thought it could be enough for app , and cache all together

At the momenti i have a 6tb data hard disk where i put all my storage, adone project folder also

In my idea when i have to work at a project i would m ove the folder to the nvme till i finish then i put it back on the 6tb hard disk

Do you think could be a good solution?

I have 2 256 spare ssd drive, that i might use in case it is better to separate cahce disk from app disk

O course i know that it is always been said that to separate all is better, but with these fast nvme disk ...is it still so important to separate?

And if it is how much is the benefit?

thanks

You can usually edit 4K H.264 from a mechanical hard drive. Pro Res and BRAW not so much. Is your hard drive being pegged at 100%. If not what are you hoping to accomplish by using a second SSD? Are you hoping to playback more layers of 4K? You can find out where the weakest link in your system by running the Windows Taskmanager.

When I got my Sony A7 III 4K camera the thumbnails took for ever to redraw. I bought an M.2 SSD and it did not make any difference from using a mechanical drive as seen in the video below. The CPU was the weakest link. It is much harder to redraw 4K video thumbnails than 1080P thumbnails. The video below might be worth watching.

I would try it with only the NVMe drive and copy (not move) the media there as you work on the project.

If all is OK, then use that workflow. Perhaps use the SSDs for backups.

Then archive and back up the project and media as you normally would do.

Why you say not MOve? anyway when i put the folder back on the data disk, i will need to erase the original folder, to make sure it contains only the files i have worked with

So is it fine to have app, cache, and project on the same folder?

Just to have an extra backup.

    With the NVMe drive, probably.
