Question

Premiere Pro, GPU hardware choice

As I'm thinking to upgrade my editing machine (HP z840, dual 16 core Xeon, 192GB RAM, Nvidia Quadro M4000 graphics), I'd like to know if anyone has experience / opinion / test results, of:

a) adding another Quadro M4000 GPU

b) adding a nvidia Tesla m40 12GB card

Surely option a) increases the fluency of timeline playback, but does option b) do it better (ie is it woth the extra money...)?

Any insights on this?

Unless you're shooting RAW or doing extensive effects, I would not expect an additional GPU to make a worthwhile difference in timeline performance

Thanks for your reply JPooley.

At the moment I'm not editing Raw, but it is in the pipeline. Thats why I'm now trying to figure out what do I need in order to "survive" when editing 4K RAW material. Transcoding to some intermediate codec is not a tempting alternative.

Tried to search for any kind of test or comparison of using a Tesla card in video editing but haven't found anything so far.

The Tesla is NOT what you're looking for.

The Quadro is needlessly expensive for what you're doing.

Get an RTX 2060 Super or better
