Question

Recommended Workflow for Server?

Hey guys,

Here is the premise: PC and Mac Systems accessing the footage from our Server.

PC Path for ProjectX: 169.168.213\ProjectX\Media\Clip.mxf

Mac Path for ProjectX: Volumes\Servername\ProjectX\Media\Clip.mxf

Everytime I open the project, I have to relink all the media, if the project has been opened

with the other workstation, because it cannot find the clips in the location due to different file paths.

Can someone please advise? Is the only way to circumvent this using Team Project? If so, nevermind.

No Dynamic Links between AE and PPRO and 1000 bugs make Team Projects incredibly useless.

I wish It'd be possible to have your own files paths assigned to your own workstations...

Thanks

Jannick

I'm not a Mac person, so I can't give the specifics. But there are tons of shops that are Mac/PC running on servers and if the server setup and 'mounting' is set correctly it works fine. I hope one of the split-shop users will pop in with the specifics soon.

I think the key here is having an IT person who knows how to wrangle this situation.  There's a reason why avid rules the shared media workplace, they've been doing this for many years.  I don't think it's as simple as just having your media shared on a drive connected to a network...  fwiw, I work on both windows and macs but just move the media drive from one system to the other.  Got a program that allows windows to read and right mac drives and generally works pretty well.  Every once in a while when I move from one platform to another, premiere asks me to relink some of the media.  never sure why, but premeire usually does a pretty amazing job reconnecting once you point to a file or 2...

I've got colorist friends who also do some editing, some Fusion, some Ae work. And have both Mac & PC systems running on joint servers and whip forth  & back between them without much trouble most of the time.

Yea, it takes knowing how to set the system up.
