Samsung V-NAND 860 EVO SSD vs NVME 4.0

Hello Everyone.

 

I am a little confused, would you please help me. I am adding an extra Hard Drive for Project files and Disk Cache. In one of our forums I was told If I am Editing 4K Videos, I was told it's best to have NVME 4.0.  I did look online, and It looks like NVME 4.0 is like a Memory card rather than an actual SSD Drive.

If I use Samsung SSD Instead of NVME 4.0, is it going to be much slower?

Dear Averdahl.

 

I contacted Dell Tech, and they told me, the computer comes with C drive SSD, and D Drive 2TB SATA,  I can only Add 1 Extra 2.5 SSD, and another Extra SATA Drive. I have already added a 2TB SATAIII, as an E Drive. And I am planning to add the Samsung EVO as an F Drive. According to Dell Tech Support, they told me I can not add any kind of SSD Cards Like Kingston. I am not sure If dell Tech is correct. If I find out that I can not add another Type of Kingston Type to my Computer, so Technically, I have to use my F Drive as my Media Cache, and Projects file. This is my computer info:

They are correct in that the machine does not have a native M.2 slot that you can attach the Kingston A2000 to. But, the computer has one PCIe Slot (x4) that you can fit with an adapter for any M.2 SSD such as this one.

 

However, since you have a graphic card installed you have to check with Dell wich one of the two PCIe slots that card cover, the x1 slot or the x4 slot. (You need to use the x4 slot.) In worst case it covers both.

Yes, an ordinary SSD disk connected using the SATA interface will be much slower than an NVME SSD connected using the PCIe interface. Yes, they do look different.

    Thank you for your answer.

    My Program files are already inside my Computer C Drive which is 2TB M.2 PCIe NVME SSD. Therefore, I can get the Kingston A2000, and add all my Project files, and Scratch Disk, Or I can have all the project files inside the Kingston A2000, and all the scratch Disk Cache inside the Samsung EVO 860?

    No need to apology for the confusion, i have been there as well many times! 🙂

     

    As long as you don´t use the C drive as a scratch disk/media cache disk you can use any disk you want. Adobe says that Disc Cache and Media Database wants a dedicated drive but i have used it on a drive with media files for years without any related issues.

     

    I would keep as much of the media on the Kingston A2000.
