stupid question about performance

So with a ryzen 7 3700x, 64 gigs of ram, rtx 2060 super, premiere ran super smooth, while editing, scrubbing etc, no issues...

 

But with my ryzen 7 5800x3d, rtx 2080 super, 64 gigs of ram, i get supper lag during scrubbing, editing playback etc, and when i say super lag..... about 4 fps.

 

only changes were upgrading the 3700x to a 5800x3d and upgrading the 2060 super to a 2080 super..

 

i mean crap, it runs smooth as butter on a crappy ryzen 3 with a 2060 super so this makes no sense(after effects does the same thing)

 

(running 24.0.0 build 58)

 

ideas?

When configuring a workstation for video editing, compare the components that you are using with those used by companies that build workstations specifically for video like HP Z workstations and Puget Systems workstations.

Your problem, in this case, is your choice of a Ryzen 7 5800X3D as your CPU upgrade. Unfortunately, the 5800X3D performs relatively poorly in most content creation programs compared to its non-X3D siblings. The X3D series is optimized for gaming - and gaming alone. Content creation performance falls where it may with that series of CPUs.

    Are you running the new hardware on the same older motherboard? You might have to update the bios. Also a reinstall of Windows might be a good idea.

    thanks for the reply.

     

    Mobo is the same, and bios are fully updated (MSI MPG B550 gaming edge wifi) 

    and windows was reinstalled on the 980 pro NVME boot

    exported videos are exported to another 1tb 980 pro

     

    I pulled the 5800x3d and 2080 super last night and put the 3700x and 2060 super back in to test and it ran just as smooth as it always has(Kept them just incase anything happens to the 5800x3d and 2080)

     

    put the 5800x3d and 2080 back in and back to being Slooooow

     

    its hit rendering to

     

    render time ona 33 second promo video at 1080p 22 minutes

    export 37 minutes

     

    rendering it in 4k after an hour it was only 35% done.

     

    with the 3700x and 2060 4 minutes to render the same video at 1080 7 minutes to export and 12 minutes to render it in 4k and exported in 22.

     

    I can't believe heats a problem as that was my 1st thought the 3700x is only hitting 56c at full load, the 5800x3d is hitting 75c, but isnt thermal throttling, and thats well below the threshold.(and obviously that 3d cache runs way hotter)

     

     

    right now running it im at 75c 49% usage, the only thing of note i see is on the 3700x it fully bosts all cores with ryzens pbo, with the 5800x3d currently rendering I have 3 cores running at 4500mhz(4.5) and the rest are sitting at 3500(they fluctuate between 3300 and 3700)

     

    the other programs from other developers run smooth, but there is a massive reason i prefer premier/ae/ps even though its the more expensive option(IE usability, plugins, fonts etc(including pairing it with my motion array account)

     

    So i would def like to figure this out, I have had this issue once before and it was an issue with the new version everyone had and went away when i installed an older version, but that didn't solve this problem and the fact it still runs smooth on the older cpu, but obviously i did not want to upgrade to AM5 yet and paid 400 bucks for the x3d(2 weeks before it went on sale....)
