Question

Video Card Suggestion

Hello,

I recently built an i7 Gen 8, Windows 10 system. I also just purchased the Adobe CC subscription with Premiere Pro CC.

I quickly found that I will have to get a video card, so I wanted to ask for a suggestion for my needs.

I am pretty much a Photoshop only user, but I want to see how Premiere Pro works as well. I have a Canon 70D that people tell me takes excellent video.

What are the specs on a decent quality video card, that will do a decent job on video?

Keep in mind that although I will do some video, my primary focus will be still photography, so I really don't want to go to the high on the video card.

     Thanks.

Thanks for the help guys.

I got a solution, that was limited by the market.  When I went to the local computer superstore, almost all video cards were out. Pretty much barren shelves there. It was because of the bitcoin related drama.

About the only thing decent I could buy was AMD Radeon RX 560 4GB, for $200.

I might upgrade later, but I am no hurry. This thing seems to work fine with Photoshop CC 2018, so I'm okay. I had to get this thing working for the photography class I am taking. Also, there was no sense in buying a year's subscription to Adobe CC, and not get a year's worth of use out of it.

I have to young sons who do some gaming. One of my sons already has a VEGA 1050 4 GB card. If I upgrade later, I can give this video card to the other son.

If I upgrade, I'm going wait until sanity returns to the video card market. When I see the price of the videos going well above the price of a i7 Gen 8 CPU, that I put into this new machine, there is a problem.

Sanity may have a path. If you do not mind waiting a bit.  EVGA - Products - Graphics - GeForce 10 Series Family - GTX 1060 6GB has almost sane pricing and if you sign up for "Auto Notify" they will put you on their list for eventual availability.

You might want to hold off on a GPU upgrade until the prices drop. Almost all current-generation GPUs now cost way more money than they did just three months ago due in large part to the cryptocurrency mining craze. For example, the 6GB versions of the GeForce GTX 1060 now cost more than $500, compared to about $270 just three months ago. And even the GTX 1050 2GB now costs close to $200 nowadays. The only GPUs that are considered "affordable" are those that nobody wants because they're outdated or too slow.
