Video Card unsupported... and I can't afford a new computer

Hi all,

I have new project to be working on so I downloaded the latest version of adobe premiere pro. Turns out my video card is unsupported. I notice it gives me an option to continue anyways. "If you continue with known issues, you may experience performance degradation, instability, and data loss." Okay, so data loss? What does that actually mean? Will the software delete my video files on my hard drive I'll be working from? I just wanna understand what exactly the risks are because I cannot take any chances that the videos on my hardrive may be deleted. Thanks guys.

 

My video card is Intel HD Graphics 5600. All my drivers are updated, my computer is old.

Update your drivers from the PC's Support Downloads web page. Compare the latest drivers with the ones presently installed in Device Manager reached by right clicking the Start Menu. Make sure you have the latest BIOS, Chipset, Display (Video), Sound, USB3, Bluetooth, Network and all other drivers, or else download and install the latest now.

I am disappointed to tell you this, but the system in question now no longer meets minimum hardware requirements for any newer version of Premiere Pro. You see, that laptop has only a 5th-Generation Intel Core CPU, while a 6th- or newer generation CPU is now the absolute minimum requirement.

 

What's more, as I stated above, even the newest driver for that 5th-Generation CPU's IGP is incompatible with Premiere Pro. The very last driver ever for that CPU was released in February 2021 - and that driver is merely a security-patched version of a driver that dated all the way back to 2017.

 

In other words, that PC is simply too old for newer versions of Premiere Pro. And Intel itself is to blame for this: It is dictatorial to software companies (as in, Intel told Adobe to completely discontinue support for all of its legacy and obsolete hardware). Generally speaking, Intel places its hardware into legacy support status after just three years of production while continuing only critical security updates for a few years after that. The very recent depreciation of the 6th- through 10th-Gen CPUs into legacy support status is in line with that policy since the IGPs in all of Intel's 6th- through 10th-Gen CPUs are essentially the same (that is, Skylake rehashed over and over again).

I do NOT know the functional differences between versions, but another option MAY be to use an older version that is compatible with your hardware (sorry, I don't know which version that might be)

 

Adobe now offers the current and ONE older version via the online program manager

-Prodesigntools is an official Adobe partner, and the links go to Adobe, not a 3rd party site

 

IF/When you do have a download, be sure to copy it to AT LEAST one external device
-you should ALWAYS keep a copy (or two!) on an external device
-since Adobe DOES SOMETIMES REMOVE OLD VERSIONS FROM THE SERVER
-a usb flash drive or external hard drive, or write to a CD or DVD

At this point you're completely out of luck. Intel had completely ended all support and driver updates for all 4th- and 5th-Generation Core I-series CPUs back in June of last year, after having been in legacy support status as early as 2018.

 

And the known issues that you may experience, when Premiere Pro's renderer is set to OpenCL mode, include program crashes, lockups and/or corrupted renders and/or exports.

 

So, until you earn enough money for a new PC, please disable all hardware decoding, encoding and rendering by unchecking the hardware decoding and encoding boxes in the media settings of the program, and setting the renderer to "Mercury Playback Engine Software Only" in the export settings (you must do this manually every time you export a video; otherwise, OpenCL acceleration will be enabled by default).
