Hello dear Adobe Forum

First of all, thank you to anyone who helps me to answer my question. I've never been a poster of Adobes forums before but this site sure has helped me a lot of times. So thank you! And I hope you will be able to help me now aswell.

My needs are mostly for video editing, premiere pro but I also use my computer for gaming, but I feel its secondary since my current setup run the games I play (overwatch, fortnite) pretty good.

So to my question. I've recently started to edit in 4k. The problem is that playback is lagging and it just doesnt feel smoth to edit 4k. Especially when I add effects, lumetri color etc. Some effects dont even render when I make transitions. I dont want to use proxies or anything like that. I'd just like to know what I need to upgrade to ensure smooth editing of 4k video. This is my setup:

*Computer: **

Core i7 4790k 4.0Ghz, overlclocked to run at 4,6 ghz

Vengeance LP 16GB 1600MHz

GA-Z97X-GAMING 3

MSI GeForce GTX970

Define R4 Black

Nzxt Kraken x61

SuperNOVA 750W B1

Any help or feedback would be great. And again, thank you for helping so many times before. Hope I make myself clear, if not, just ask and I'll try to be more clear :) . Cheers!

What about Hard Disk, If you haven't mentioned about. You have HDD with 7200RPM or SSD.

You can also get better 4K playback with certain settings like -

  • Set renderer & playback to mercury playback engine GPU acceleration
  • Render previews (if the red line is visible in the timeline)
  • Uncheck high-quality playback from program monitor settings
  • Create Proxies

Thanks alot for your answer

To add I have 1 SSD Kingston for OS and premiere apps (including cache media): https://www.elfa.se/sv/ssdnow-v300-240-gb-sata-gb-kingston-shop-sv300s37a-240g/p/11054181?channel=b2c&price_gs=1327.5&wt…

I also keep my project files on a samsung SSD 850 EVO 500 GB.

I thank you so much for your tips. As I previously stated, proxies is out of the question. I believe I already have set renderer and playback with GPU acceleration. The thing is that I dont want to render previews (ofc I do it if its red, but if its yellow). And Sometimes I get error message when i try to render 4k clips that are red. I wonder why that is? I also have unchecked the marker you are talking about.

Thx alot for your help
