Z270-A Build for Lightroom and Premiere

Hello folks, in the past RoninEdits had given me some great advice for my build here.  I still use this build although it is aging.

Anyway, I just upgraded the video card to a 1070 in the above build and now find myself with some parts lying around from this and other projects to possibly build a Lightroom/Premiere PC for my wife:

ASUS Prime Z270-A motherboard

Asus STRIX GTX970 video card

Corsair RM 1000X PSU

I figured that adding a couple of SSD's, RAM, and the best CPU available for this MB would be a quick build that would replace the antiquated (and painfully slow) PC she's been using.

I'm out of the loop as far as new tech goes (keep hearing the Z390 MB is the only way to go), so my questions to those that would know are:

  1. Is it worth it to build upon the Z270-A MB?
  2. If so, what SSD's (it has 2 x 32Gb/s M.2 x4 slots), CPU, and memory would be the best?

Thanks for reading yet another "What to build???" post!

You'll have to put a 6th- or 7th-generation CPU on that motherboard because it does not officially support any newer-gen CPUs without major electrical modifications to the board. You see, although the newer 8th- and 9th-generation Intel CPUs use the same physical socket, the electrical pin assignments differ enough between the two that newer CPUs will not work properly on such an older motherboard (which uses a 100- or 200-series chipset) even with the latest BIOS versions. Conversely, older 6th- and 7th-generation CPUs will not work properly on any motherboard with a newer 300-series chipset.

Yes, this I am aware of.  Some folks seem to think this is just a cash grab by intel.

Being unfamiliar with current vs older hardware specs, I'm basically asking if it's worth building on the Z270 at all and if so what CPU, drives, and memory would be best for it at this point in time.

It looks like the best available CPU for this board if I am not mistaken is the Intel Core i7-7700K, which is 4 cores.  It does not seem that any 6 core processors are available at this point.  I've read that adobe is actually recommending 6 cores for lightroom now so maybe it is best to just sell the Z270.
