acrobat 11 opening spontaneously

After seeing a notification on my screen this morning, 9/16/2016, of an update to Adobe Acrobat 11 pro, the program has repeatedly opened spontaneously, and then displays a popup about a "There was an error opening this document.  This file cannot be found".  I can only assume this is somehow associated with the program update this morning. I've never had this problem before. Is anyone else having this problem after the update and what needs to be done to keep the program from spontaneously opening?
