Acrobat and Word's Compile Error alert: linkCreation.dotm

I have been getting (and ignoring) this alert in Word 2016 and finally Googled it. It appears to be linked to an Adobe add-in with the filename linkCreation.dotm that was installed with Acrobat DC. This Microsoft website recommends deleting linkCreation.dotm. Before I delete it, I would like to know more about this file.

http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/mac/forum/macofficeinsider-macword/compile-error-in-hidden-module-link-using-word-for/11c6764c-a527-4db1-ad35-08154331efac

Here are my questions about linkCreation.dotm

• what is its purpose

• why did Adobe add it

• what did Adobe think it would do for me

• will cause any issues in Acrobat DC if I delete it from the Microsoft system files

If I have to pick between Acrobat and Word running correctly, guess who wins...

My specs, because someone will ask:

This issue is due to running 64Bit Version of Office with this add-in that is only compatible with 32Bit. Adobe is aware and have issued a patch you can download Word to PDF conversion problems with Acrobat and Mac Word 2016 version 15.23.2 or later https://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/word-to-PDF-conversion-problems-mac-word-2016.html

I extracted the dotm contents to get a deeper look, and apparently it adds a button (or is supposed to) to the ribbon to send the current doc to Acrobat for conversion to PDF. I *think* is also does some PDF linking stuff, but these files aren't meant for human (even as a programmer) reading...

I don't have a full set of answer, but my understanding is that it is a add-on that allows you to link to PDFs in Acrobat, link you can link to URLs, but I may be wrong - since I can't try it out, since it is broken. I've just trashed it. Both Acrobat and Word will continue to run fine.

Thank you, emerrill

Office 2016 is supposed to be cross platform, so I wonder if this file works on the Windows side and just wreaks havoc on the Mac side. I will trash it when I get home, but have marked your answer correct in the meantime. This was just information seeking anyway. I am currently out of town without my computers.

Thank you!!
