Acrobat Student and Teacher - classic or continuous?

I'm considering purchasing the Acrobat DC Student edition (the $119 one-off purchase) and am trying to work out what version of Acrobat I'd be getting. Am I right in thinking that buying the student edition is like buying the regular $449 edition - i.e., it's on the 'classic' update track and won't have the latest updates like tabs and the new scanning workflow? In that case, Adobe doesn't offer any kind of student discount for the continuous version, which seems weird to me. Or does the student edition somehow operate on the continuous update track instead?

Classic is for one off purchases, Continuous is subscriptions. Same for students, I think.

So, if you don't subscribe, there are no tabs, no feature updates, no free upgrades. Given how quickly Windows and Mac OS are now changing to make apps obsolete, I think subscriptions may well be more and more the way to go. As I understand it the student discount is for one year only, and only for the whole Creative Cloud, not single apps.
