I use Adobe Acrobat X Standard.  After working for a long time, it now gets stuck halfway through the process of converting a Word file to a PDF

Same/similar problem here confirmed on 2 laptops.

The latest Acrobat XI Pro 11.0.17 fails/gets stuck forever while converting from latest Word 2003 11.8411.8405 SP3 to PDF thru PDFMaker in Win7 x64 Ultimate environment.

I had a chance to check around for detail of this odd issue and now can report as follows:

1. Only PDFMaker option affected! Creating PDF from Word 2003 thru Adobe printer is OK.

2. Creating PDF from Excel 2003 thru PDFMaker is affected partly!

3. Word / Office 2007 isn't affected at all.

4. Repair of each of both Acrobat & Word gives no result.

5. Uninstall/Reinstall of Acrobat starting from v11.0.7 and updating to 11.0.17 gives same no result.

Damn, it seems to be due to unlikely Acrobat itself but to some of MS updates installed thru this summer. Anyhow this issue can't be too aged when as far as I could prove myself I've made a couple of PDF from same Word 2003 early June 2016 in normal way thru PDFMaker w/o any issues. Although not easy to locate what KB is a culprit.

Update: Well, well, well... an incomplete solution has been found here:

Acrobat Hangs Creating PDF from Word Doc - Possible Solution

Just uncheck a tagging option in Word > PDFMaker > Change Conversion Settings > General Settings.

For Excel 2003 this semi-remedy is similar.

Rgds,

UPDATE of 2016-09-13-Tue:

This is just to report that after install all 11 of September 2016 M$ Updates for Win7 & M$ Office 2003/2007 this issue has been finally almost solved.

Now you just need to enable advance tagging as follows:

Word > PDFMaker > Change Conversion Settings > Settings > Enable Accessibility & Reflow with tagged Adobe PDF (to enable back) and tick there a sub-option - Enable advanced tagging.

That's all.

C ya.

FINAL UPDATE of 2016-10-13-Thu:

Please install the latest Acrobat update dated of Oct. 11, 2016. In my case it's Acrobat Pro XI 11.0.18.

This issue has gone completely. It has been duly tested with the default settings of PDFMaker + Word 2003 + Win7sp1x64.
