Question

Adobe Acrobat XI pro crashes when using OCR. Help?

Trying to OCR (recognize text) a folder of files (6900 files).  Each attempt, which takes a day, ends with Adobe crashing at the same file number. How do I troubleshoot this issue? Using on new computer.  Is there a page limit or memory limit with this product. The files being OCR'd are PDFs. Can a pdf contain content that may cause the OCR to fail?

We have many licenses of this product that will be useless to my organization if we can not use the OCR function.

Hi,

I observe the same problem running Adobe Acrobat XI, 11.0.18 on macOS 10.10.5.

Please find the test file on Acrobat Cloud for which Adobe Acrobat crashes while running OCR.

Details provided through "About Acrobat" dialog:

- Architecture: i386

- Build: 11.0.18.21

- AGM: 4.28.147

- CoolType: 5.11.147

- JP2K: 2.0.0.37135

Do you prefer that I open up a separate and new topic about this issue?

Hi Daniel,

There seems some issue running OCR on this file from multiple file route. In this file route is working fine. You can use it as a workaround for time being. Meanwhile, I will log a bug for your issue. We will update you once this issue is resolved.

Also, this issue is already resolved on latest Acrobat(Acrobat DC). You can use trial version of latest Acrobat DC  Download Adobe Acrobat free trial | Acrobat Pro DC

Thanks.

Hi,

We apologize for the issue you are facing. There must be a particular file causing this issue. Please try running OCR excluding that file.

Also please share following information to help us identify and resolve the issue ASAP:

  1. OS Detail
  2. Test file for which you are facing issue. (you can use https://cloud.acrobat.com/send  for sharing files)
  3. Crash logs

To create logs please follow these steps.

  1. Retry the scenario where Acrobat crashes
  2. Do not close the pop-up when Acrobat crash
  3. Open Task manager
  4. Right click on “Acrobat.exe *32” process and select ‘Create Dump file’
  5. It will create a log file in temp folder. (Path will be displayed on pop-up comes when logs created). You can also check this under
    1. Open Run process (Win+R)
    2. Type %temp%
    3. Logs file will be available here with name Acrobat.DMP

Hi susanp38624504,

Please provide the exact dot version of the software & OS installed at your system .Also check whether is there any update available for the software after going through "help > check for updates "

Follow this thread to reset the preferences for the Acrobat software :- How to reset Preference settings in Acrobat.

Is this happening with all documents or with this certain one.

Also the name of the application using which the document is originally created .

If the document is not of good quality then such issue appears.

Please also check with the different user account with the admin rights .

Regards,

Yatharth
